My invention relates to'new and useful improvements in a bottle filling device, and is more particularly directed to'the filling tube and the valve thereof; and has for'its main object to provide such a bottle filling or liquid feeding device in which the valve is immedia-telyand positively closed and a vacuum is created in the filling tube,-so as to securely retainthe remainder of the syrup or liquid in the tube as soon as the bot tle is withdrawn from said tube; and" another object is to provide means for adjusting the filling tube on the device so that the valve may be partly or entirely opened for "feeding the liquid, in order to suitthe thickness or thinness of the liquid to be fed through the valve into the tube and to vary thetime of closing said valve when the bottie is withdrawn.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of partshereinaft'er described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

Fig. 2 is a similar vertical sectional view, showing the mechanism in the elevated position and the valve open, and
Fig. 3 is a plan View of the invention.
In the drawings, I have shown the preferred form of construction embodying my invention and this form'comprises a bracket 6 mounted fluid tight in the bottom of a liquid containing tank 7, as by means of screws 8 or the like. A tube 9 is slidably mounted through the lower part 10 of the bracket and through a packing gland 11 in the upper part 12 of the bracket. The sleeve 13 provided with a flanged packing nut 14 at its lower end is mounted on said tube and threaded into the upper part 12 of the bracket. Soft material 15, like cotton, is placed around the tube between said packing nut 14 and gland 11. The tube 9 is provided with valve openings 16 adjacent its upper end, said openings being closed fluid tight in sleeve 13 when the tube is lowered, as shown in Fig. 1, and open or exposed above said sleeve 18 when the tube is in its elevated position, as shown in Fig.

' With this form of construction the'valve openings 16 may be adjusted to be exposed to any desired extent above sleeve 13, to
suit theconsist'ency of the fluid and also the time desired in which the spring 23 will automatically close said valve when the bottle is withdrawn from bell 25, and in view of the fact that the topv 21 of the tube is closed, the valve openings 16 are sealed in the sleeve against the admission of atmospheric pressure whereby the liquid in dropping will cause a reduction of pressure of the air entrapped in the tube so that when the combined weight of air pressure and liquid within the tube becomes less than the atmospheric pressure at the lower end of the tube, the remainder of the liquid in the lower part of the tube will be retained and waste thereby avoided when the bottle is withdrawn from the belL- When it is desired to vary the amount of fluid taken in the cup 19, from the fluid in tank 7, a solid article is preferably placed in the cup, or the size of the cup is constructed to suit the particular size of bottle to be filled with this device.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

A device of the class described comprising a container with a tube slidably mounted therein, a sleeve in said container and surrounding sald tube, and a cup attached to said tube and slidable therewith on said sleeve, there being valve openings on said tube which are exposed when the tube is moved in onedirection and are closed when the tube is moved in the opposite direction, so that the liquid in droppingwill cause a reduction of the air entrapped in the tube and result in the retention of the flulidremaining in the lower part of said tu e. a 7
