This invention relates to new and useful improvements in machines for mixing concrete and the like, and has more particular reference to a water supply attachment therefor.
In carrying out the present invention I equip the usual material trough and feed chute of the concrete mixer with a water tank from which leads a discharge spout terminating at the mouth of the chute and adapted to partially enter the mixing bowl when the trough and chute is raised for dumping material therein with the end in view that a sufficient supply of water may be also introduced into the mixing bowl which is of course necessary.
The invention further aims to provide an attachment of this character that is of such a nature that when the material is discharged into the bowl, the water will drop simultaneously therewith and partially mix with the material prior to the rotation of the bowl.
It is a still further object to provide an attachment of this character that is extremely simple of construction, inexpensive of manufacture, and one that may be associated with practically all types of concrete mixers including a tilt-able material trough and feeding chute combined therewith.
With the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a conventional concrete mixer, the material trough and feed chute being equipped with a water feeding attachment constructed in accordance with the present invention, the same being disclosed partly in section.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 disclosing the material trough and feed chute as well as my attachment in elevated position whereby the material is fed into the mixing bowl simultaneously with a quantity of the water from the water container, and
Figure 3 is an upper end elevation of the material feed chute disclosing the position of the exhaust end of the water delivery pipe of the present invention with respect thereto.
Now having particular reference to the drawing, 5 designates the mixing bowl of a conventional concrete mixer, while 6 designates the material receiving trough from the inner end of which is extended vertically a discharge chute 7. Said trough and said chute being so mounted in association with the machine as to permit of the raising of the same as in'Figurc 2 so that the material may be properly discharged into the mixing bowl 5. i
My invention per se consists of a suitable watertank 8 mounted upon oneside of the material trough 6' and having a fiat bottom so that the same will rest on the ground flush with the bottom wall of said trough. The top of this tank 8 is closed at its inner end, while the outer end thereof is formed with an inclined opening 9 to permit the charging of the tank with a supply of water. Leading from the back wall of this tank 8 and at the top side thereof is a discharge pipe 10 which is extended upwardly and inwardly toward the upper end of the discharge chute 7 and is secured adjacent its end to the chute by a suitable clamp 11. The extreme inner end of this discharge pipe 10 passes beyond the end of the chute 7 and inwardly thereof so that the same will engage within the mixing bowl 5 when the combined trough and. chute is raised to dumping position. a
Obviously in this position, some, or all of the'water within the tank 8 will flow therefrom through the pipe 10 and enter the mixing bowl 5 to become thoroughly mixed with the material forming the batch.
In view of the foregoing description when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, it will at once be apparent to those skilled in the art that I have provided a highly novel, simple. and efficient water supply attachment for concrete mixers that is Well adapted for all the purposes.
heretofore designated, and even though I have herein shown and described the invention as consisting of certain detail structural elements it is nevertheless to be understood that some changes may be made therein without effecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is 2-- 1. In combination with a concrete mixing machine including the mixing bowland the swinging material receiving trough provided with a discharge chute; a water tank secured on the side of the trough and-a discharge pipe extending from the tankalong the side of the chute, the outer end of said pipe extending slightly beyond thedischarge end, of the chute, so that said rend of said pipe will enter the mixing bowl whenthe' trough 1S swung upwardly to a discharging position whereby a sup ly of water will be delivered to the mixing owl bygravity.
2. In combination with a concrete mixing machine including the mixing bowl and the swinging material receiving hopper provided with a discharge chute, a water tank secured on the side of the trough of the hopper,
