My invention relates to a rotary percussion implement or apparatus 1n which the construction is such that the parts 1n motion. will be'constantly balanced.
It is a known fact that in rotary percussion implements, there are employed a certain .number of striking or impact bodies, and usually an even number, which rotate at high speed and follow the internal profile of the main casing, the said bodies stnkmg, through the intermediary of a tool holder, upon a toolin contact with the plece of work.
In my invention, theinternal 0111711116 of the casing is such that all points of the trajecto of the striking b0 ies are symmetrical in pairs, except in the part adjacent the tool holder, in which the symmetry is only approximate.
A constructional form of percussion implement which is balanced in accordance with my said invention is shown in the appended drawings.
Fig. 1 is a section through the middle part of the implement.
Fig. 2 is a section of the line A O C of Fig. 1.
The figures show the principal parts of my said rotary percussion implement; 20 is a cylindrical casing provided with bearings 21 and 22 in which is rotatable the actuating element 23 mounted on a high speed shaft.
Theends of the actuating element 23 have the form of cylindrical sleeves in which are disposed the impact bodies 25 which have for instance a spherical form.
- As in the known devices, the casing 20 has mounted .therein the tool holder 26 adapted to hold. the tool (not shown) which operates upon the work.
Within the casing 20 is mounted, for instance by the screws 27, a cam 28 whose internal profile determines the trajectory of the bodies 25, so that each of the latter, as the actuating element rotates, is first driven towards the axis of rotation and is then suddenly released, so that by the centrifugal action set up, it will be caused to strik against the head of the tool holder 26 with greatforce.
In my invention, the internal outline of the cam 28-is such that the trajectory of the bodies 25 is symmetrical relatively to the iaxis of rotation of the actuating elemen 23.

on the plane of Fig. 1; considering the line A O C passing through the two oints of the outline nearest the oint 0, an the line D O B passing throug the two points of the said outline farthest from the point 0, the symmetry of the two parts of the cam 28, which are comprised in the angles A O D and B O G, is exact.
When the impact angle A OB, they leave the cam 28 and strike the .tool holder 26, thus describing a trajectory which depends upon-their weight and their speed of rotation. of the part of the cam 28 in the an le 0 O D is so designed as to be symmetrica with the above-mentioned trajectory.
In the portion which is diametrically 0posite the tool holder 26, the different outines are joined by rounded parts, so that there will be no prejudicial shocks.
It will be readily understood that during the operation of t e implement, the trajectory of one impact body is exactly symmetrical with the trajectory of the other bod except for the very limited part correspon ing to the tool holder 26, so that the centre of gravity of the aggregate of the elements 23-25 W111 always remain upon the axis of rotation of the element 23, and hence the system will be balanced at all times.
The reactions upon the operator will thus be reduced to the minimum, and the implement can be handled with great facility.
Obviously, my said invention is not limited 'to the form of construction hereinbefore described, and in particular, I ma employ any suitable number of pairs 0 impact bodies.
I claim as my invention:
1. A rotary percussion implement, comprising, in combination, a casing; a tool holder mounted therein, a rotary actuating element disposed in said casinga pair 0 impact bodies carried by said element and arranged diametrically opposite each otherand a cam within. said casing to guide sai bodies and permit them to strike the holder during their rotation with the actuating element said cam imparting to both bodies sim taneously movements which are virtually symmetrical with relation to the axis of rotation of said actuating element.
2. A rotary percussion implement, according to claim 1, in which the cam is of annular form and has a peripheral surface such that any two diametrically-opposite points bodies pass through the.
