CONTACT DEVICE.

This invention relates to a contact device for'y variometers and has for its primary object the construction of a contact that has eilicient operation at all times.
An object of the invention is the construction of a movable contact that will be positi vely clean at all times.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a contact that will have a cutting action so as to assure a bright surface and, therefore, a clean contact.
Besides the above my invention is distinguished in a contact that besides assuring a. bright surface will provide a yieldable action for holding the various parts of the electrical instrument pronerly associated.

Again referring to the drawing lllllS- trating one of the many constructions of my invention the numerals 1 and 2 designate the companion sections formed on the stator of the mriometer, each recessed as indicated at 23 to snugly receive the contact plate Screws 5 secure the contact plate in position and due to the countersinking of the plate, the latter is positively held against loosening in the operation of the rotor 6. 'This rotor is supported from the contact plate by the stub shaft 7 each of which has one end threaded as indicated at 8 for receiving the binding nut 9 for clamping the stub shaft to one of the terminals 0 the winding.
My contact device is in the form of a contact washer 10 that is secured to the shaft 1922. Serial No. 566,663.
and held against displacement by the collar 11 formed on the shaft. This contact plate is of concave convex formation so as to present a cutting edge 12 to the contact plate contact plate. It will also be noted this con-' struction provides a plurality of points 15 for facilitating cutting action.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanyin drawing it will be apparent that I provi e a novel support for the rotor in combination with the novel contact device that will allow free turning of the shaft While at all times assuring excellent contact. A yieldable action of the washer also assures proper positioning of the parts and smooth operation thereof.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention What I claim is:
The combination with a stud shaft having an enlarged. portion formed thereon intermediate the opposite ends thereof, a collar formed as a part of the stud shaft and disposed in spaced relation with respect to the enlarged portion, a conductor plate through which an end portion of the stud shaft projects, of a contact washer disposed between the collar and the enlarged portion and formed substantially convex concave in shape and having a plurality of radially disposed slots formed in the peripheral edge thereof defining yieldable tongues providing cutting edges adapted for cutting relation with respect to the conductor plate, substantially as described.
