This invention relates to improvements in games and has particular reference to a game which is embodied inan article of merchandise.
The principal object of the invention resides in a game device, a portion of whlch is provided on the outer surface of the box or carton of an article of merchandise such as-a package of cigarettes or candy, and the rema nder of the parts are packed within the box, so that a .purchaser 1n addition to receivin the article of merchandise also re illustrated in ceives t e game which may be played by two or more persons for pastime and entertainment.
Another object is to provide .a game device adapted to be sold with an article of -merchandise so that the box' in which the merchandise is packed will be retained, in orderthat the brand of the merchandise may be permanently displayed after the contents have been emptied thus serving as a method of advertisement for the goods.
A further object ofthe'invention is the provision of a game device which is simple in construction, inexpensive of manufacture, and. highly amusin and entertaining to thosepartaking in t e playing of the same.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter full described, are particularly ointed out in the appended claims, and are the accompanying drawing, in which 1 Figure 1 is a rspective view of an article of merchand s e showin the manner in which our improved game device packed. 'Fi ure 2 is. a top plan view of the game boar .with the spinner in position. P

per, or the merchandise. I
Figure 6 is av detail sectionalview of a. slightly modified jorm.
' igure 7 isa plan" view of a modified Refer moreipjarticularly to thedrawing, the re erence numeral 10 designatesfan article of merchandise which in the present instance is shown as a box 11 containing Figure 5 is a plan view of the inner wrapcigarettes, but we wish it to be understood that the contents of the box ma vary as the-invention may also be applie to candy boxes and other like products. The box comprises a tray section 12, and a removable or hinged cover section 13,"which latter section co-acts with the tray section to seal the box when the cover section is in a closed position. j
Printed .directly' upon the exterior of the cover or upon a label which may be pasted over the cover is a dial 14 divided into two annular concentric fields 15 and 16.
The field 15 is marked with radially extending lines 17 which are equi-distantly spaced and are numbered from zero to sixteen hundred in multiples of two hundred .while the spaces between the zero mark and the sixteen hundred mark 19 desi nated as finish. This field is employed when laying the game as a horse race or the li e 1;; a manner which will be hereinafter ex- .plained.
The field 16 is divided into radially arranged segments 18 having assorted numbers arranged therein. The numbers in-the spaces 18 are of two distinguishing colors, that is, each number is bounded on opposite 'sides by two other numbers of difi'erent color.
Formed within the cover and centrally of the fields is an opening 18, but which may be normally sealed so, that the contents of the box may be kept fresh and drybefore like and one sideof whichis provided with a plurality of e ui-distantly spaced indicating marks 22 w ich may be numbered consecutively' while the opposite side has'inscribed thereon a lesser number of marks 23. The axialcenter of the disk is provided with a square opening 24 for receiving. the square portion 25 of a stem 26. The stem tapers tore point at one end as at 27 and is frictionally engaged withthe-walls of the I Y 105' square opening 24 inorder. that the disk will rotate when the upper end of the stem .isv asped by the fingers and given rotation.
en the box 11. is packed with merchandise, the inner lining or wrapper 28 is first placed therein and on which is printed dicia 28 used in the playing of the respective games. Inthe present instance, the
indicia is that used in the playing of the when any of the indicating marks 23 on the disk register with any one of the numbers of the group picked, then the player who picked the number is declared the winner.
Any established set of rules may be decided upon by the players participating.
lVhen spinning the disk, the pointed end of the stem is inserted through the opening 19 in the box and rests upon the bottom of the tray section 12, but in the event that the depth of the box is too deep to permit the pointed end to rest upon the bottom while the disk is free ofthe top of the box, a cup 29, as shown in Figure 6 of the drawing, is inserted through the opening 19 and supported by the cover section, and which cup receives the pointed end of the stern.
When it is desired to change the type of game, the disk may be reversed upon the stem so as to present the indicating marks 22 to view for co-action with the marks 17 on the cover. The marks 22 being identified by numbers or like indicia, the players each pick a number or combination of numbers, and it that number registers with the segment marked finish, he is declared the winner. As hereinbefore mentioned there is no set rules for the playin of the games as the principal object of the lnvention is to embody a spinning game in anlarticle of merchandise to increase the sales of the same.
As hereinbefore mentioned, the wrapper 28 is placed in the box and the contents received therein. The disk and the stem are in a separate position and are placed within the tray section on top of. the merchandise,-
before the cover is closed and sealed. Such' .a game combined w1th an article of merchandise will induce the public to purchase the same, and the container or box willrof course be retained by the purchaser after the contents have been emptied, thus keeping the box which may contaln the name of the brand of the article before the eyes of the players.
In Figure 7 ot the drawing, we have illustrated a modified form of spinner disk 21, for use in connection with the dial set forth, and the same is provided with short markings 22 and elongated markings 23- on its upper face for respectively designating the winners of the horse race game and roulette.
lVhile we have described what we deem to be the most desirable embodiment of our invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of our invention, and we therefore do not limit ourselves to the exact details of construction nor to anything less than the Whole of our invention limited only by the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is:-
1. In an article of merchandise, a box having a cover, a dial provided on said cover, indicia radially arranged about said dial, said cover having an opening formed centrally of said dial, a spinner including a disk and a stem extending therethrough on opposite sides thereof, one end of said stem passing through said opening for engagement with a support beneath said cover for rotatably supporting said disk above said cover, and radially arranged indicating marks provided on said disk for register with certain of the indicia on said dial.
2. In an article of the class described, the combination of a box having a body and a co-acting cover for enclosing said body, a dial provided on the exterior surface of said cover and having indicia arranged radially thereon, said cover having an opening provided axially of said dial, a s inner member comprising a disk, a removab e stern extending through said disk for rest on the bottom of said body and for supporting said disk above the exterior of said cover, and radially arranged indicating marks provided on said disk for register with certain of the indicia on said dial, said disk and stem adapted to be contained within said box when not in use.
In testimony whereof we have afiixed our signatures.
RUDOLPH PAULUS. PETER TIIRIK.
