W. E. HENDERSON TOP CLEARER FOR ROVING FRAIE S Flled Dec 18 1926 fig 7 111W Z. 110230103 "M Patented June 7, 1927. I V
UNITED STATES WYLIE n. HENDERSON, or LanE'r'r, LABA A.
TOP oLnAnnn ron ROVING FRAMES.
Application filed December 18, 1926. Serial No. 155,729.
My invention relates to top cle'arers for roving frames or the like.
An important object of my invention is to dispense with the usual wooden blocks upon which the cots are usually mounted, and which cause considerable trouble by splitting and by wearing the rear side of the cot.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device of the above mentioned character in which the cots may be reversed or replaced at will.
turther object of my invention is to provide a device of this character in which the whole top clearer does not rest upon the rollers.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent during the course of the following description. I
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and wherein like characters of reference denote like or corresponding parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of my invention,
Figure 2 is a central transverse section thereof,
Fi ure 3 is a central longitudinal sectiona l view therethrough,
Figure a is a detail perspective of one of the cot supporting clips, and, v
Figure 5 is a detail view of the rod and slot connection.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodimerit of my invention, the numeral desighates the clearer cover which is formed of sheet metal and has its edges bent over to form the front and rear flanges 11. Brackets 12 are arranged adjacent the ends of the cover 10 and have projections 13 at their ends to make pivotal connection with the spinning or roving frame (not shown). The brackets 12 are provided with vertical slots 1% arranged adjacent the center of the clearer cover which are adapted to support the ends of longitudinally arranged rod 15 having a reduced extension 16 at one end to engage one of the slots 1d and being substantially oval in cross section. The other end of the rod15 is provided with a screw or bolt 17 adapted to be removably secured to the end of the rod to remoiably and slidably secure the rod 15 between the brackets 12.
In assembling, thecots 20 are passed over the clips 18 ,which are theninserte'd into the openings in the rod. The-outer ends of the clips are bent or offset, as-shown, in
order to space the cots t'roin the rod 15.
It will be seen that the cots will hold the clips in the openings 19, but that they may be removed by applying a little pressure.
With my improved device the cots may be reversed, when worn, or may be easily replaced by removing the clips 18. ,By reason or the fact that the ends of the clips are bent, the cots are spaced from the rod 15 and will consequently not be subjected to undue wear incident to being pressed there against.
Only the weight of the cots and the rod 15, will rest upon the rollers by reason of the slots 14 and members 16 and 17 which allow of a vertical sliding movement between the rod 15 and clearer cover 10.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that various changes in the 7 size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a cover, a longitudinally arranged rod slidably secured thereto, clips secured to said rod, and adapted to support a cot.
2. A, device of the character described comprising a cover, a rod arranged thereon and having openings in its sides, clips having their ends arranged in the openings in the sides of the rod, and a cot adapted to be supported by said clips, said cot serving to retain the ends of the clips in the openings in the rod.
3. A' device of the character described comprising a cover, a rod longitudinally arranged thereon and having openings therein,
clips having their ends arranged in the openings in the rod and adapted to support a cot, the outer ends of the cllps being bent to support the cot in spaced relation to the, rod, the
clips being held in position'in the openings in the rod by the cot.
4. A device of the character described comprising a cover a rod longitudinally arranged thereon and having openings therein,
a roll clearing cot, clips secured to said cot .and'l'iaving their ends inserted 1n the openings in the rod, the ends ofthe clips being bent to space the cot from the rod and the major portion of the-clips being substantially parallel with the cot.
5.-A device of the character described comprising a cover, a rod longitudinally ar- I 'anged thereon and having openings therein on opposite sides thereof, a roll clearing cot,
and substantially U-shaped clips having their ends inserted in the penings ineither side of the rod and having theirouter ends bent to support the cot in spaced relation to the rod, the major portion of the'clips being arranged in parallel relation with respect to the cot.
6,.,A.n.device of the character described comprising a coverfa longitudinally extend- Ling rod slidahly secured thereto and having openings 1n opposite sides thereof, i a roll -clearingeot and'eubetantially U-shaped clips supporting said cot and arranged on either eidexol the rod, the inner ends ofthe clips being inserted in the openingsiin the rod and retained therein by the cot thenouter rod and extending laterally therefrom and a cot adapted to he supported by said clips;
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature WYLIE E. rrnnnnnson
