Description
H. P. FIELD June 7, 1927- MINE CAR Filed Ju1.v20, 1926 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 H. P. FIELD June 7 1927- MINE CAR Filed July 20, 1926 2. Shoots-Sheet 2 46, the hood members 46'being enlarged at their ends to provide openingsto receive the door 24 to the fully closed position latch members 56. The latch members comprise curved latch portions 60 which project inwardly from the gear segments 54 to engage beneath lugs or projections 62 carried by straps 64 secured to the doors 20 and 22 adjacent their free edges, the corners of the doors being cut away to provide openings to receive the lugs 62 and latching members 56. Movement of the latch members 56 along the pins.58 is prevented by means of sleeves 66 and withdrawal of the pins is prevented by means of the cotters 68 and heads 69.- The free edge of the door 24 is provided with an outwardly projecting lug 70 engaged by a latch 72 which may be of any desired construction, such as Is shown in the patent to Nichols No. 1,534,135 of April 21, 1925.
In the modified construction shown in Fig. 7, the door 22is provided with a hinge member 35' which is journaled upon the car axle 18', the hinge member 35 being provided with a gear segment 52' which engages the gear segment 54 of a latch mem-- ber 56 of construction identical with the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 6. In this modification, however, in order to position the door at the proper height above the rails, the strap 64' carryin the lug 62' is placed on top of the door s eet instead of underneath as in the other construction. Otherwise, this modification is identical with the structure shown in otherfi res.
In the operation of the evice, assuming the doors to be closed as shown in Fig. 1, operating the latch 72 will release the door 24 permltting the door to drop and operate the ear segments 52 on the hingemembers of t e door 24. Operating these gear segments 52 will operate the ear segments 54 and positively retract the etch portions 60 of the'latch members 56 from'beneath the lugs 62 on the door 22 whereupon the door 22 will drop and in like manner operate the latch members 56'to release the door 20. The doors will be returned to closed position by a suitable device such as is shown in the patent to Nichols, mentioned above, and they will be returned inithe reverseorder, the door 20 being raised to the fully closed position and then the door 22 being raised. Raisin the door 22 will cause the operation of the atch members 56 to engage with the lugs 62- carried by the door 20 and the rais ing of the door 24 will cause the operation of the latch members 56 to enga with the lugs 62 carried by the door 22. iiisingatllgg ond pivotally mounted door, cooperating gearin on said second door and latch and a hood s ielding said latch and gearing.
3. In a car, a pivotally mounted door having a projection thereon, a pivotally mounted latch enga cable with said pro ection, a second pivota ly mounted door and cooperating gearing on said latch and said second door.
4. In a car, a pivotally mounted door having a rejection adjacent its free edge, a pivota y mounted latch having a flan e engageable with said projection, a secon pivotally mounted door, a hinge strap for said second door and co-operating gearing on said latch and hinge strap.
5. In a car having spaced sills, awheel carrying axle mounted in said sills, a flanged hood for said axle, bearing brackets carried by said hood and a door plvotally supported by said brackets.
6. -In a car having spaced sills, a wheel *1;-
carrying axle mounted in said sills, a flanged brace connecting said sills and extendin to opposite sides of said axle, bearing brac ets carried by said brace beneath said axle and a door pivotally supported by said brackets.
7 In a car having spaced sills, wheel carryin axles mounted in said sills, flanged hoo s for said axles, bearing brackets carried by said hoods, doors pivotally supported by said brackets and latches for some of said doors pivotally mounted between said hoods and said sills and operatively connected to others of said doors.
8. In a car having spaced sills, wheel carrying axles mounted in said sills, flanged braces connectin said sills and extendin to opposite sides 0 said axles, bearing brac ets carried by said braces beneath said axle, doors pivotally supported by said brackets and latches for smne of said doors pivotally mounted between said braces and sills and operatively connected to others of said doors.
9. In a car having spaced sills, a Wheel carrying axle mounted in said sills, a; flanged hood for said axle connecting said sills, and door supportin bearing brackets carried by said hood, sai hood being enlarged at its ends to provide openings for door latches. 10. In a car having spaced sills, a wheel car 'ng axle mounted in said sills, a flan ed hoo for said axle connecting said s s,
bearing brackets connecting said hood flanges and a door pivotally supported by said bearing brackets.
11. In a car having spaced sil1s, a brace connectmg said sills, bearing brackets car ried by said brace and a door pivotally supported by said bearing brackets.
12. In a car havin spaced sills, a'flanged' brace connectingj sai sills, bearing brackets connecting said race flanges and a door pivotally supported by said bearing brackets.
13,5.In a car havin spaced s1lls,"='a' flanged brace connectin sai S1118, bearing brackets connecting said race flanges and a door pivotally supgorted b said bearing brackets, said brace ein en arged at its-ends to provide openings or door latches;
14. 'In a car, a pivotally mounted door' having its face edge cut away forming open vlat es and openings and a second door pivof ally supported'from said hood and operatively connected to said latches.
