This invention .relates vto -an improvement in the construction' ot chains or bracelets formed of a pluralityfoffconnected extend- -ible links; and the object otrthis invention -is the construction ot sucha chain or bracclet which compriscsa scriesot' box links-f connected by trame links, each frame link vbeing mounted to slide withinits box .link and a spring being :provided fin each box -link acting upon it and theframe link to pressfboth toward contracted position.
A. further-object of the vinvention is the provision Y of rsuch an extendible bracelet in which -the box links each have .a lresilient wall to which oneend of a 4frame-shaped connecting flink insthe next adjacent box link is detachably connected.

tis found in the practical vconstruction and Operation of extendible bracelets or chains of this character, ot advantage in some instances, to Jform the links very thin, whereby they will lie flat and close to the embodiment of my invention and showing one construction of bracelet, by whichthese r.advantageous results may be obtained.:-

if desired and open both top and bottom.
The links are detached one from the other by swinging the two adjacent box links at an angle to each other and springing outwardly or lifting up the end wall and its lip 18 slightly to permit the end bar 21 of the :trame link to be passed thereover.
At the timethis frame link or yoke v"is positioned in the box link and before the latter is entirely closed, a coiled spring 22 is also positioned in this box link to act between the end bar 23 of the frame link and the end wall 16 or the box link serving to press the frame link towards housed or contracted position in its box link and at the same time permit the maximum amount o'l expansion between the links of the bracelet so that it may be iiexibly extended suiticiently to be passed over the hand of the wearer when desired.
In some instances, instead of forming the bottom wall 1li of a width toV lie upon the edges oi the side walls 15, as illustrated in Figure 5, I may form the bottom wall 24-,"as illustrated in the modification in Figure 10, narrower to fit between the side walls 25 permitting` it to be depressed slightly and cooperate with the resilient end wall 1i to permit the frame link or yoke to be more readily detached from its box link by springing this end wall 1T with its lip 18 outwardly and also this rear wall 24- slightly inwardly.
My improved bracelet is extremely simple and practical in construction, is etlective in its operation, presents abroad surface to be ornamented when desired, may be made very thin to lie close against the wrist of the wearer, may be manufactured at the minimum cost, and is very handsome and attractive in appearance.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An expansible bracelet comprising a series of outer box links each having top, bottom, side and end walls, yoke links substantially rectangular in shape and one being partly housed in each box link and embracing the end wall of the box link partly housing it and the end wall of an adjacent box link, and a spring acting between said 'yoke link and the box link in which it is housed whereby the bracelet may be extended in the direction vof its length by yieldingly sliding the yoke link out of the box link, one or" the walls of the outer box link being resilient to permit flexing for detaching the yoke link from the end wall of the said adjacent box link.
2. An expandible bracelet comprising a series of box links, each having top, bottom and side walls and a resilient end wall, a frame link partially housed and slidably mounted in each of said box links and having one end connected to the resilient wall of the next adjacent box link which may be detached therefrom by flexing the resilient end wall, and a spring in each box link pressing its frame link to contracted position therein.
An expandible bracelet comprising a series of outer box links, each having top, bottom, side and end walls, an inner yoke link slidable in each box link and having an end portion located outside of the box link and engaging the end wall of the next box link, and means to permit a separation of the engaged end wall and its adjacent wall for detachment of the yoke link therefrom.
el. An expandible bracelet comprising a series of outer box links each having top, bottom, side and end walls, an inner yoke link slidable in each box link and having an end portionv located outside of the box link and engaging the end wall of the next box link, said engaged end wall being resilient and having a portion separable from the other wall to permit detachment of the yoke link therefrom.
5. An expandible bracelet comprising a series of box links, each having top, bottom,
side and end walls, one of the end walls being resilient and having a lip portion overlapping its bottom wall, a frame link slidable in each box link and having one end detachably connected to the resilient wall of the next adjacent box link, and a spring in each box link acting between its opposite end wall and the housed end of its frame link pressing these links toward contracted position.
In testimony whereof I a'liix my signature.
IVILLIAM LICHTENFELS.
