IMPROVEMENT IN BLUE-GRASS-SEED CLEANERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,037, dated May 11, 1875; application filed April 2, 1875.

Be it known that We, JOHN WV. VILGOX and ROBERT L. DEJARNATT, of Paris, Bourbon county, Kentucky, have invented an Improved Machine for Separating Blue-Grass Seed from the Ohaff and other Impurities, of which the following is a spccication:
Our invention relates to machines for cleansing` blue-grass seed 5 and it consists in the arrangement Within a concave Wire or other screen of a rotating cylinder provided With rubbing teeth or pegs, which are arranged in a pspiralorder running in opposite directions from the middle of said cylinder, to convey the cha-ff, &o., either Way out of' the machine.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a side elevation of the machine, and Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional elevation.
A is the concavewire or other screen, supported at either end on suitable bearings within the upright fra-me E, the sides of upper portion of which are inclosed, as shown. B is the rubbing-cylinder rotating within the screen, which cylinder is provided with a double-spiral order of teeth, b, running in opposite directions from the middle, Where the seed to be cleansed is fed into a hopper, D, placed directly over the middle of the cylinder B, and provided Within with a toothed feeding-roller, O.
The operation is as follows: The seed to be cleansed is fed into the hopper D, and the roller G acting,` as distributer and regulator therefor, it is passed downward into the narroW space between therubbingcylinder B and the concave Wire screen A, and the doublespiral order of rubbing-teeth acting` as conductor thereto, it is forced along from the middle toward either end of the screen A, receiving a rubbing or scouring action during its transit, which effectually cleanses and separates from it all chaif and other impurities, conveying the same out at either end of the machine, While the seed is permitted to drop through the screen.
An inclined sieve may be attached beneath the screen, if desired, to further the cleansing1 of the seed. l
We claim as our invention- The cylinder B, provided with the double spiral rows of rubbing-teeth I), running in opposite directions from the middle, and rotating Within a concave screen, A, to conduct the material from the middle to either end of said screen during the cleansing operation, substantially as set forth.
