LAUNDRY kzzriocinns-:erANnIiINei` APPARATUS. i
Application mea Jimary is, 192e. seriai No. 82,349.`
i The invention provides simple and effective means for handling clothes duringthe washing, or laundering process without subjectingthe person to the liability of being` resorted to within the scope of the invention,
asy claimed, without departing V`from the spirit thereof. y
For a full understanding of the invention and themerits thereof, reference is to be had tothe following description and the drawings hereto attached, in which- Figure 1 bails being extended and onek of the bails having its intermediate portions broken away, Figure'2 is an enlarged detail sectional view on theline 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a Adetail lsectional view of a wash boiler with the sling in position therein and supporting the articles tobe boiled. Corresponding and like parts are referred to in vthe followingdescription and designated'in the several views of the drawings yby like reference characters. The sling comprises a body member and oppositely disposed bails, or V-shaped arms 18 which are pivoted to the body member and which are vprovided at their outer or free-ends with loops 19 to engage the hook lto ends of the parts 9.V The loops 19 are coiled vabout the` free ends of the bails 18 and the latter are of a llength to project above the sides of the vwash boiler 20, so that the loops '19 may be swung outwardly to be out of the way and to be conveniently engaged with the hooks 9. The body of the sling comprises a metal frame 21 which conforms to l the inner contour of the wash boiler, so as tok obtain a snug fit therein. A wire fabric 22 is stretched over the `frame 21 to receive and support the clothing, or other articles to be laundered. A metal binding v23 is fitted about the frame 21 and an edge port-ion is connected to the marginal edge of the wire x `fabric 22 by means of a lap joint, as shown placed upon is a plan View of the sling, the4 `of the frame most clearlyiat 24 inFigure 2. The body member is reinforced by ylongitudinal and transverse metal straps 25, the ends of which are bent about the frame of the body. The transverse straps 25 have their end portions bent to engage about the inturned ends 26 of the bailsrlS, as shown most cleari ly in Figure v2.
In the operation of v the invention the clothing, or. articles to be laundered are the sling and are transported therebytothe wash boiler 20 and are lowered therein, as indicated in Figure 3a After the clothing has been boiled a. sufficient time to loosen the dirt, the sling withthe clothving thereon is lifted from thewashboiler 20 by means of the loops 19 and may be held suspended for a short time to permit the surplus suds `water to drain into the boiler. After the clothing has drainedf sutiiciently, it is transferred to the tub, or other receptacle in one of the bails, .or arms 18 and lifting the sling A by the other arm the clothing is readily discharged into the receptacle, asv
will be readily com'prehended.
Having thus ydescribed the invention, I claim:
1. In' apparatus fied, a sling4 comprising a frame, 'a wire fabric covering the frame and secured at its marginal edge thereto, metal straps eXtending beneath thewire fabric from one side to the other and attached at their respective ends vto the frame at `oppositepoints, and arms pivotally connected to the frame by said -straps which are bentv around the frame and the pivotal endsrof the yarms.
2. Infapparatus ofthe character specified, a sling comprising a frame, a wire fabric covering the frame, a binding applied to the frame and having an edge portionk connected to the wire fabric by means of .a lap joint, metal straps reinforcing the wire fabric and'having their ends bentv about the said frame and binding, and bails rapplied to opposite sides of the sling `and having theirends offset laterally and connected to the frame by the metal straps which are bent EMMA R. KNUDSON. [n
the next step. Upon releasing `of the character speci-
