Patented May 24, 1927.
8 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SANITARY EGG BEATER.
Application filed August 9, 1926.
This invention aims to provide novel means whereby beaters may be detached from the frame of an egg beater, to permit cleanmg. i
l' ith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows in elevation, an egg beater wherein the invention has been embodied;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a bottom plan of the anchor;
Figure 5 is a fragmental plan showing the anchor and a portion of the frame.
The numeral 1 designates a frame of an egg beater, the frame including a cross piece 2 and a loop-shaped foot 3. Loop-shaped beaters 4 are shown and are equipped at their ends with tubular bearings 5 which hold pinions 6 on the upper ends of the beaters 4.
The pinions 6 mesh with a gear wheel 7 on a shaft 8 journaled in the frame 1, the shaft being operated by means of a crank 9, a means thus being provided whereby the beaters may be rotated. The tubular bearings 5 are journaled 011 pins 10 extended downwardly from the cross piece 2. Tubular bearings 11 are mounted in the lower portions of the heaters 4. The details above enumerated form a part of a known egg beater construction, and no novelty is claimed for them, saving in so far as they may enter into combination with parts hereinafter described.
In carrying out the invention, a U-shaped latch 12 is secured to 14, by a drop of solder, or otherwise, to the upper surface of the bottom portion of the foot 3. The latch 12 has movable resilient arms 15. An anchor plate 16 is provided and carries upstanding journal pins 17. Intermediate its ends, the anchor plate 16 is supplied with a keeper 18 in the form of a stud, having a pointed up- Serial No. 128,250.
per end and reduced intermediate its ends, to form a circumscribing groove, as clearly shown in Figure 3. The anchor plate 16 is equipped intermediate its ends with lateral ly extended arms 20 having upstanding fingers 21. The bottom part of the foot 3 has an opening 19. There are seats or openings 22 in the bottom part of the foot 3, the seats 22 being located on opposite sides of the opening 19.
The stud 18 extends upwardly through the opening 19 in the foot 3, and the reduced neck of the stud 18 is received between the springs arms 15 of the latch 12. Thus, the anchor 16 is held securely in place, in the position shown in Figure 3. The journal pins 17 on the anchor are received in the bearings 11 at the lower ends of the heaters, and, thus, the heaters are held at their lower ends for rotation. The fingers 21, being received in the seats 22, prevent the anchor 16 from swinging with the stud 18 as a center.
\Vhen the operator wishes to take off the heaters 4, he simply pulls down the ancnor plate 16, detaching the stud 18 from the arms 15 of the latch 12 and withdrawing the journal pins 17 from the bearings 11 in the beaters 4. Then, the heaters 4 may be slid downwardly off the top journal pins 10, and the heaters are entirely free of the frame, it being possible, then, to wash and sterilize all parts of the machine. This is a distinct advantage, since it is well known that an egg beater, including the loop-shaped beaters 4, is hard to keep clean, in present constructions, wherein the heaters are permanently assembled With the supporting frame.
hat is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprising a frame, a heater detachably journalecl on the frame, an anchor whereon the heater is journaled, a keeper on the anchor, and a latch carried by the frame and co operating with the keeper to hold the anchor on the frame.
2. A device of the class described comprising a frame, a beater detachably journa-led on the frame, an anchor whereon the beater is journaled, a stud carried by the anchor, a latch on the frame and engaging the stud, and interengaging elements on the anchor and on the frame which cooperate to prevent the anchor from swinging on the tachable connection between the anchor and stud. the frame.
