CONCRETE-FORM CLAMP. I
Application filed October is; 1926; serial No. 141,376.
This invention relates to an improved clamping device which is used in association with the uprights. The device includes, among other parzs, a special bracket to'be secured: to-each upright, upper and lower horizontal beams supportedpartially'by the bracket, and clamping means associated with these beams, together with tie rods connected with the respective clamping devices on oppositesides of'thef form, the rods being left in the concrete to become 1mbedded therein after the same has become sufficiently hard.
The particular structural features forming the alleged novelty of the invention will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a side view of a fragmentary portion of a concrete form showing the manner in which the invention cooperates with one side of the same,
Fig. 2 is a view on an enlarged scale showing in vertical section the construction more plainly,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view in section and elevation showing the details, 7
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the special brackets, v
Fig. 5 is a perspective View of a clamping plate, and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a special tool which may be used in conjunction with the invention.
In the drawings the reference character 1 designates the boards which are arranged to form the side walls of the concrete form and the reference character 2 designates the vertical uprights. Disposed between the two walls of the form are the tie rods 3 at the opposite ends of which are the special clamping devices. Inasmuch as the clamping device is the same on each end of the tie rod, it is believed that a description of one device will sufiice for all. To this end it will be seen that the reference characters 4 designate a pair of horizontal beams 4 which are disposed in vertically spaced superposed 1 61mm." 1 These" beam-S. as before indicated, are partly supported by specialb-racket.
The bracket is designated generally by the reference character 5 and it c'omp'rises an apertured attaching ear 6,:a right angularly disresdwingi 751161, n eXtension 8 forming a a supporting arm. The wing 7 is formed Wltll a slot 9. As shown the lower beam 4 rests'upon the arm 81 A'feed screw 10 extends; between the beams and through the slot5 inithe wing '7 and a nut- 11 is threaded thereon and bears against the wing on the inner side ofthe latter. the outer edges of the beams 4 is an elongated clamping plate 12 which has a serrated face to' provide ribs for bitinginto thebeam's. At collar nut '13'Qis threaded on theouter endbtthe screw 10 and: thiscol' lar is provided with a" screw thr'eadedstud 14 on which a hand clamp 15 (see Fig. 3) is adapted to be placed for rotating the collar. It will be noted from the last-named figure that one end of the screw 11 terminates in a polygonal head 16 upon which another crank 17 is adapted to be placed as indicated in Fig. 2. In addition the inner end of the screw 10 is formed with a socket which is screw threaded for reception of the screw threaded end of the aforesaid tie rod' In practice the attaching brackets 5 are fastened to the uprights 2 as represented. a
' plainly in Fig. 2 in such a way that the arms may project beyond the uprights to serve in supporting the beams. 4. The beams are placed in position by means of a tool 18 such as is represented in Fig. 6. This tool comprises a U-shaped member 19 having a handle 2O. The tool is simply auxiliary to the present invention. The screws 10 are placed in the beams 4 and pass through the slots 9 in the brackets and the nuts 11 are tightened after the tie rods 3 are properly positioned. Then the clamping plates 12 are formed. snugly against the beams 4 by means of the collar nut-s 13. I It is believed that by considering the description in connection with the drawing, a clear understanding of the construction and use of the invention, together with its various features and advantages, will be had. Therefore, a more lengthy description is believed to be unnecessary.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it
is to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to if desired.
I claim:
1. In a structure of the class described, in combination, a concrete form wall including boards arranged in edge-to-edge abutting relation together with vertical uprights, a bracket supported upon one of said uprights, a pair of Vertically spaced horizontally disposed beams placed against the uprights, said bracket including means for partially supporting the beams, a screw passing between said beams and cooperating with said bracket, and clamping means on the outer end of the screw also cooperating with said beams.
2. In a structure of the class described, a
special supporting bracket for a tightening screw comprising an attaching plate, a wing extending at right angles from said plate and provided with an elongated slot, and a supporting arm projecting at right angles to said wing.
3. In a clamping device of the class described, a bracket, a feed screw cooperable with said bracket, said screw having an inner tapered end provided with an internally screw-threaded socket, the opposite end of the screw being provided 'witha polygonal head, a clamping plate having an opening for passage of said screw, said plate being provided with serrations on its inner face, and a clamping nut carried by said screw and engageable with said plate,sa'id nut be ing provided with a screwethreaded stud to accommodate a removable hand crank.
I. In a structure of the class described, a bracket embodying an attaching plate, a right angularly disposed slotted wing and a supporting arm, a pair of horizontally disposed'vertically spaced beams, the lower one of which rests upon said arm, a feed screw passing between said beams and through the slot in said wing, said screw having an internally screw-threaded socket at its inner end, a plate bearing against the outer edge portions of said beams, said plate having an opening through which said screw passes, a collar nut carried by said screw and bearing against said plate, said collar nut having a screw-threaded stud for accommodating a removable hand crank.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
