N. COOK LAPPET AND THREAD GUIDE 0F SPINNING, TWISTING, AND LIKE MACHINES Filed Sept. 27, 1924 j mlml m Patented May 17, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NORMAN COOK, OF MANCHESTER, ENGLAND.
LAPPET AND THREAD GUIDE OF SPINNING, TWISTING, AND LIKE MACHINES.
Application filed September 27, 1924, Serial No. 740,326, and in Great Britain September 28, 1921.
This invention relates to lappets and cylinder of small diameter extending across I the forward portion of the lappet and below the upper surface thereof; the said tube is provided with holes bored transversely thereof to receive the shank of the thread guide and the inner walls of the said tube are tapped, on one or both sides of the trans verse holes, to accommodate a grub screw or other set screw adapted to bear against the portion of the shank that crosses" the tube, thus clamping the thread guide in position.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a side elevation,
Figure 2 is a front elevation, with the shank of the thread guide shown in section, and
Figure 3 is an inverted plan of one construction of lappet and thread guide according to this invention.
i'fiigures at and 5 are views of details.
A is a lappet, which is secured at its rear end to a lappet board B by a screw passing through a hinge member 0, and which car ries at its forward end a thread guide D termed of wire bent as shown. The lappet $1 is made of sheet metal and comprises a top plate a and side flanges a a which form bracket supports for the lappet when in its horizontal position as shown in Figure 1.
a is a tube extending across the front of the lappet and formed by bending the forward portion of the top plate into the position shown. The said tube a has two holes bored transversely throughit, and on the centre line of the lappet, to receive the shank D of the thread guide D; and one or both ends of the tube a are tapped to receive a grub screw E (Figure 4) the forward end of V which is screwed tightly against the portion of the shank D" that lies within the tube a and thus clamps the thread guide in the required position.
Having described my invention what I of which is bentto form a cylindrical bushing the interior of which is tapped and in the walls of which are cut oppositely situated holes on a line transversely of the bushing, the said holes being adapted to receive the shank of the thread guide, and a set screw adapted when screwed into the bushing to abut against the portion of the thread guide shank that crosses the said bushing.
2. In a lappet and thread guide i oi spinning, twisting and like machines, the combination with a thread guide of a lappet comprising a metal plate provided at its forward end with, an axially interiorly threaded bushing, said bushing being transversely apei'tured to admit the shank of a thread guide, a thread guide in the apertui'ed part of said bushing intersecting the bore of said bushing and a setscrew screw-v ing directly axially into said bushing, and coacting directly with that portion of the shank of the thread guide which lies in its August, A. D. 1922.
I NORMAN COOK.
