RADIATOR COVER.

Description.

In detail the cover com rises 11 reticulated framework 10, preferab y constructed of metal and formed with four corner uprights comprising the angle bars 11. The height of the angle bars comprising the corner posts of the cover is sufficient to extend above the topof a radiator of the steam or hot water type as used for domestic heating. At one end of the cover the lower portion of the frame is provided with a hinged panel 12 as shown in Figure 1, which may be swung upwardly to permit of ready access to the radiator control valve.

The top bar 13 of the cover framework along the front and at the ends is provided with an upstanding outwardly bulged portion 14 terminating at its top in an inwardly extending horizontal flange 15. At the rear or wall side of the cover frame the to bar 13 has a flat strip extending upwardly t erefrom as at 16 provided at its top with an inturned horizontal flange 17 disposed in the plane of the flan e 15 previously described. The rear wall the cover is formed of a closed sheet 18 forming adeflector for preventin' heated air emerging at the back or wall s de of the radiator.

Secured to the under face of the flanges and 17 by means of suitable securinglbolts 19, are a pluralit of substantially U- aped metal straps 20 aving their terminals secured by the aforesaid bolts 19 to 'the inturned flanges, and forming hangers for supporting a-pan 21 which is adapted to contain water or other liquid shown at 22, the straps 20 being so disposed as to place the humidifier pan directly abovethe top of a radiator (not shown) over which the cover is applied.

The humidifier pan 21, is removable from its supporting straps 20 through the top of the cover as will be hereinafter described. A flat cover plate 23 is supported, on the top of the flanges 15 and 17 being hinged at one end to an end flange by the hinges 24 sothat the cover plate may be swun upwardly to permit access to the humidifier pan disposed therebeneath. This cover plate 23 coacting with the flanges 15 and 17 forms a closure extending over the entire tbp of a radiator and is provided with a central aperture 25 disposed over the top of the humidifier pan whereby air heated by the radiator is permitted to escape at the top only through the aperture 25 in the closure plate, which will force the heated air to travel over the liquid contained in thehu- Iniditier pan assuring a draft of heated and moistened air.

Atspaced intervals on the upper face of the horizontal flanges 15, a. plurality of Z- brackets 26 are disposed having their lower terminals'clamped to the flange by means of the securing bolts 27. The rear flange 17 has similarly attached thereto a plurality of Z-brackets 28, only one of which is shown in Figures 2 and 3. These rear brackets 28 have their upper terminals disposed in the horizontal plane of the tops of the Z- brackets 26,: nd are formed with hinges 29. connected to a flat top piece 30 extending over the entire top of the frame structure and resting freely upon the tops of the Z- brackets 26 which together with the rear brackets 28 form the support for the top piece. The sides and ends of the top piece are formed with a depending flange 31, which by reason of the dimensions ofthe top piece is disposed outwardly of the sides and ends of the frame, excepting at the back where the depending flange is in vertical alinement with the strip 16.

The to piece 30 is adapted for supporting artic es such as flower pots or the like, and when clear may be lifted and swung back upon the hinges 29. The top plate 23 is then accessible which may be lifted and swung to one end upon the hinges 24, permitting access to the humidifier. In the service position of the device the heated air rising at the top of a radiator is directed under the top plate 23 over the humidifier pan 21 and upwardly through the aperture 25 Where it impinges against the top piece 30 and escapes from the front and ends of the cover underneath the flange 31 which creates a down draft assuring a positive circulation of air within a room. The frame of the cover is. of course, open at the bottom and is applied downwardly over the top of a radiator completely enclosing the same.

Claim.

A. radiator'cover comprising a reticulated framework adapted to be placed over a radiator, a humidifier supported in the top of said framework. a plate closing the top of said framework and disposed over said humidifier, said plate being apertured above said hun'iidifier, and a top piece hingedly supported on said framework in spaced re lation from the top and sides thereof.
