IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-TESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,870, dated May 4, 1875; application filed October 3, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W. VAN ARNAM, of Watertown, Jefferson county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Egg-Tester, of which the following is a specification:
' The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved egg-tester applied to a lamp, which is indicated in dotted lines; and Fig. .2 is a side elevation of the tester, with a water-holder surrounding the joint of the branch with the the top of the flame, or thereabout, and to incline upward in an oblique angle with the chimney, and it flares a little from the lower end upward, in order to receive and hold eggs of difi'erent sizes. The simplest way of attach.- ing the egg-holder to the chimney is by soldering it; but when attached in that way, the solder is liable to be melted by the heat, making it necessary to apply a water-holder, C, in which water may be kept in contact, so as to keep the heat down; but it may be attached by interlocking tongues of one piece with holes of the other, also by riveting onto the other, and in various other ways.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A lampchimney provided with branch tube B, enlarging toward the outer and upper end, as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with tubesA B, soldered together at their junction, of the water-receptacle C, covering said joint with liquid, as and for the purpose specified.
JAMES W. VAN ARNAM.
Witnesses JOHN P. HOLGOMB, VINCENT L. HART.
