from a side wall 6 of the fire box of the furnace. llu carrying out my invention 1 provide a supporting wall 8 corresponding to and arranged parallel with the outer retort wall 2 and adjacent to the fire box side wall. An angular shaped supporting; member 10 is mounted on the upper edges of the walls 2 and 8 and is provided with an upright portion in the form a rail 11 arranged adjacent the the box side wall. The supporting member 10 extends substantially the length of the retort and is made in sections that are arranged end to end. Each section of the member 10 is held in position by means of a depending lug- 12 on the has of said section which extends between the walls 2 and 8 (Figs. 1 and 2). ceives the hooked end of an anchor bolt 13 which extends through an inverted ll-shaped clamping member or yolre 1% having its ends abutting the under sides of inwardly turned flanges on the upper edges of the walls 2 and 8. 'lhis holding means for each section is located near the rear end of the section, except that the forward end section is provided with such means near both ends, the front end of each section other than the forward end section being securely held in position by an overlapping portion 16 of the next section in front thereof. Thus the several sections of the supporting member 10 are securely held in place and may be easily removed and replaced.
A row of tuyere blocks 18 is mounted on the supporting member 10. Each tuyere block is provided with an exposed wall 20, the lower end of which is turned inwardly so as to abut a shoulder 22 on the base of said member 10. The base of said member 10 forms a ledge or dead plate which is provided with upstandingtransverse reenforcing ribs 23. The upper end of the exposed wall 20 of each tuyere block is curved outwardly to the lire box side wall. llhe portion of said exposed wall extending between the lower end thereof and said curved upper end portion is arranged in a vertical plane and extends through and along the zone of clinker formation. Each tuyere block is provided with an outwardly projecting rib :24, the upper portion of which is provided with laterally projecting flanges 26 having their edges respectively in the planes of the edges of the exposed wall of the tuyere block. Means are provided that cooperate with the shoulder 22 to securely hold the tuyere blocks in position. As shown, the upper edge portion of the rail ll isoflset inwardly to form a vertical flange 30 that interlocks with the wall of a transverse slot in the rib 2d of each tuyere block, the slot being provided with shoulders 32 that abut shoulders on the offset edge portion oi the rail. With this con struction, it will be apparent that the tuyere blocks can be removed and replaced only by sliding them longitudinally of the rail.
Tuyere structures and 36 are arranged at the rear and forward ends, respectively, of the row of tuyere blocks. The tuyere structure 34- is mounted on a horizontal support 38 that constitutes a part of the support for the overteed grate hars (not shown).. This tuyere structure is held in position by its forward edge wall abutting the rear wall of the last one of the row of tuyere blocks, and by a depending anchor lug on its base being hooked under a shoulder on the support 38. The tuyere structure 34.- is further provided with a vertical exposed wall 4-2 that is arranged in the plane oi the vertical exposed walls of the tuyere blocks 18; an outer wall at which is spaced from the wall 42 and arranged adjacent the the box; side wall 6; and a closed rear end wall 4:6 connecting the walls l2 and id.
The forward end tuyere structure 36 is provided with a vertical exposed wall T8 which is in the plane of the exposed walls oi the tuyere blocks 18 and has its lower edge turned inwardly so as to engage the shoulder 22 on the supporting member 10. This structure is further provided with a closed front end wall 50 that extends from the terward edge of the exposed wall to the fire box side wall. The upper portion or the tuyere structure 36 is provided with a depending outer wall 52 which is spaced from the ere posed wall as and is arranged adjacent the lire box side wall. Two spaced bars 54- connect the lower end of the depending wall 59 and the exposed wall These bars 5% are provided with transverse notches 56 on their under sides that are arranged to engage the flange 30 of the supporting rail ll when the parts are assembled. The exposed wall 48 is provided with spacing lugs 57 at its lower end for engagement with the rail 11. The tuyere structure 86 is detachably secured to the supporting member 10 by means of a depending lug 58 thereon having an aperture that receives the hooked end of an anchor bolt 60, the lower end or which ertends through an aperture in a cross bar 62 connecting the walls 2 and 8 and provided with a clamping nut 64 screwthreaded on its lower end.
A lining 65 of asbestos is interposed between the structure as a whole and the side wall 6 of the fire box so as to form a tleizihle seal between the underi eed s'tolrer and the side wall.

An underfeed stoker furnace having, in combination, a fuel retort having its outer wall spaced from a side wall of the fire box of the furnace, a supporting member having its base mounted on the upper edge of said outer wall and extending substantially to said side wall of the fire box, and a tuyere structure comprising a row of tuyere blocks mounted upon said supporting member each having its exposed face arranged substantially parallel with said side wall and extending above the normal zone of clinker formation and having its lower edge spaced a distance outward from the inner edge of said base portion.

An underfeed stoker furnace having, in combination, a downwardly and rearwardly inclined retort having its outer wall spaced from a side wall of the fire box of the furnace, a tuyere structure extending from the upper edge of said outer wall of the retort to a point above the normal zone of clinker formation comprising a tuyere block arranged adjacent the lower end of the retort having a fuel supporting wall spaced from the adjacent side wall of the fire box and having an outwardly projecting wall extending to said side wall of the fire box and from the upper end of its forward edge to the lower end of its rear edge, a row of tuyere blocks arranged one against the other above the upper edge of said retort wall with the rearmost block engaging the forward edge of the fuel supporting wall of said end tuyere block, the tuyere blocks of said row being adapted to be moved in a direction parallel with the upper edge of said side wall of the retort and being held from rearward movement by said rear end tuyre block, and a tuyere block removably mounted adjacent to the upper end of the retort having its fuel supporting face arranged in the plane of the fuel supporting faces of the tuyre blocks of said row and having its I'GZLI edge abut ting against the foremost tuyere block so :nenmee that said tn'yol'e blocks were held between the front and rear end blocks, mid Front end block having its front wall extending to the s1de Wall of the [ire box, and said tnyFn-e 1' L -"1 e 1b] 4" t't t' WW1 L3G ts .nn no em .oow eons 1,11 111, om, well 01' an an passage arranged above and retort Wall.
