UNITED STATES: PATENT: 0F

CONCRETE cmnme.
Application filed August 1:, 1m. Serial Io. iasaes.
This invention relates to concrete cribbing, and has special reference to that type -of cribbing used in the building of retain-,
like parts: I
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fra mental section of cribbing in which t e invention is embodied; and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one of v the improved headers.
The invention resides particularly in the novel form of header WlllCh is illustrated at 1,- the stretchers both front and rear being identical and illustrated at 2 and 3 respectively, these latter being simply straight, rectangularly shaped members; all of the members being, as is obvious, of pre-cast construction.
The body portionof the headers 1 are preferably square in cross-section and at the forward end are somewhat L-shaped, having the upwardly extending toe 4, the top face- 5 of which is inclined forwardly and downwardly, while directly beneath this toe is a similarly inclined projection 6, starting however on the plane of the lower face of the header, such inclined projection being for registration with the similarly inclined upper end of the L-shaped projection 4 of the next lowermost header. stretchers are designed to snugly fit intermediate of the headers and against the toes 4 as clearly shown in the drawings.
The inner ends of the headers are formed with depending heels 7 which however are but approximately half the depth of the stretchers and not designed necessarily to rest one upon the other as is the case at the opposite end. However spaced inwardly from the extreme inner end of the header and upon the uppermost face thereof is formed an inclined lug8 having a straight vertical stretcher engaging face 9 against which the stretcher rests, thus forming a rectangularly shaped cribbing with all stretchers uniformly held against outward thrust, and the -innermost stretchers held against lateral .thrust in either direction, itnot bein deemed essential that the outermost stretchers be held against inward thrust.
In this manner I have provided an ex-. ceedingly simple and substantial cribbing structure, and one in which the forward end of the headers cooperatively engage each other to counteract outward thrust, and any outward thrust upon the cribbing is equally distributed between the front and rear stretchers, as the front stretchers cannot move without, drawing the rear stretchers with them, they held together by the headers. I
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
bination straight rectan larly shaped 1. A- concrete cribbing comprising in com:
stretchers, headers for over apping engagement with the stretchers at both ends and horizontal holding engagement with each other, said holding engagement of the head- Y are occurring outboard of the outermost stretchers.
2. A precast unit for the purpose de scribed comprising an elongated rectangularly shaped body portion having an L- shaped projection at either end, pro ections extending in opposite directions in respect to the body portion, one of said projections bein designed for holding engagement with t e like end of a similar unit to prevent longitudinal movement of any individual unit in a cooperative series thereof. I 3. A precast unit for the purpose described comprising an elognated rectangu- The front larly shaped body portion having an L-shaped projection at either end, said pro jections extending in opposite directions in said respect to the body portion, the terminal of one of said projections being inclined and a similar inclined projection u on the opposite face of the body portion or cooperative engagement with a similarly inclined terminal.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
ELBERT H. DRESSER.
