My inventionwrelates to friction hinges for movable stands in which a display panel is rotatively mounted by means of pivot hinges or trunnions'between a plurality of 5 suspending members. 3 The general struc-' ture which is the subject ofmy invention a may be illustrated by that of a movable black-boarchin which the boa-rd on which the chalks are applied is suspended between twouprights and adapted to be rotated to change the inclinationthereof or to display alternatively one or the other of the two faces.

\Rererring to the drawings in which like characters of reference denote like parts throughout, a black-board panel is rrepresented by the letter A and it is supported upon a pair of standards 5, 5 by means of pivot hinges each of which is represented as a whole by the letter B. Below the blackboard the standards are detachably' connected by a cross-bar or chalk-rail! having at each end thereof angle brackets '8.
Each of the hinges or trunnions B includes a relatively stationary member 10, which is mounted on the stand-ardfi and a member 11 rotatably movable relatively thereto, secured to the board or panel A; and provided with flanges 12 by which the lattachinent by means of the screws isf reinf forced and strengthened. In order that it shall be secured against rotation, the shaft of said pivot bolt maybe angular in cross-section, and the said Washer provided with a correspondingly angular opening. The end of said pivot bolt is screw threaded to receivea threaded nut 29 which should be formed integrally with a hand wheel 30.
It will thus be seen that, when the hand wheel is turned, the relatively stationary and movable parts 10 and 11 will be drawn into frictional contact with each other to any degree of tension, and that the board-or pannel A attached to such relatively movable member-1.1, may be set at any desired degree o of inclination or revolved as desired without varying the frictional engagement with the relatively stationary member 10.

In a friction hinge; a relatively stationary hinge member and a bearing plate provided with openings adapted to be alined with each other, a pivot bolt rotatable in said alined openings, a hinge member se-V 'cured to said plvot bolt to frictionally engage with the first named hinge member, a clamping plate non-revolubly securedlto the pivot bolt to engage said bearing plate, and a nut on the pivot bolt to give longitudinal movement of the clamping plate on said bolt. 9. In a friction hinge; a pair oat-clamping 7 members, onegof which is movablerelative to theother member, said clamping mem-- bers being arranged in telescopic relation,
a support for the clamping members,a wear plate and a clamping Washer mountable on said support on the side op osite to thesaid clamping members, a pivot olt passing nonrevolubly through the movable member-and the clampingwasher and passing revolubly through the immovable member and the wear plate, and means on the pivot bolt for moving said clamping member and said clamping plate relatively to each other so that the frictional faces of the clamping members may be in adjustably operative relation.
10. In a friction hinge; a pair of clamping members one of which is movable relative to the other member, said clamping members being arranged in telescopic relation, a support for the clamping members, a Wear plate and a clamping Washer mountable on said support on the side opposite to the said clamping members, a pivot bolt having a squared head seated in the movable revolubly through the clamping Washer, and
means on the pivot bolt for moving said clamping member and said clamping plate relatively to each other so that the frictional faces of the clamping members may be in adjustabl operative relation.
