BTELI-PRESSUBE COOKER.
Application nled January The device forming the subject m'atter of this application is a cooking ntensll, and one object of the invention is to improve the 2a, 1926. ser al. No. 84,404.
of the base 1. Intermediate its ends, the vertical portionof the vent passage 8 has a seat 10, wherewith coacts a ball valve 11,
handle mounting. Another object of the retained in the vertical portion of the pas- 60 sage 8, for movement, through the instru invention is to improve the vent construction and the means whereb the base and the closure of the receptac e are held toe gether detacliably.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
\Vith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description pro-- .ceeds, the invention resides in the combina- Figure 3 isa section on the line 3---3v of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a fragmental section showing the handle mounting; Figure 5' is a fragmental section showing the vent valve construction; Figure 6 is a section on the line 66 of Figure 1; Figure 7 is a section similar to Figure 5, but showing amodification; Figure 8 is a plan of the modified valve.
- The utensil forming the subject matter of this application comprises a cup-sha ed base 1 and an inverted cup-shaped c osure 2 mounted on the base, the closure fitting within the base, with a steam-tight ground joint 3" s The numeral 4 designates a lug having ,lateral ears 5, thelug 4 being mounted on the outer surface of the wall of the base 1, and upstanding above the upper edge of the side wall of the base, as shown in Figure 5,
j securin elements. 6 connecting the ears 5 of the ug 4 with the sidewall of the base 1. That portion of the lug 4 which extends above the upper edge of the base 1 issuplied. on its inner surface with a socket 7. lhere is an angular vent passage 8 in the lug 4, the vent-passage extending upwardly through the upper surface of the lug, and
extending inwardly, into communication 'with an opening 9 formed in the side wall mentality of a stop pin ,12 located in thevertical portion of the passage 8"and mounted at'its ends in the lug 4. If desired, 1a perforated false bottom 14 may be located in the base 1, the bottom being corrugated, and having an upstanding central spout 15, the function of which isnnderstood readily. The closure 2 is supplied with an outstanding finger 16, which, being received in the socket 7 of the lug 4, affords ameans whereby the baseand the closure are held together detachably.
The handles are held on the base 1, and on the closure 2 in the same manner, and, therefore, a description of one handle will Sufiice, the handles being located, preferably, diametrically opposite to the lug 4. Any suitable latch mechanism may be provided for connecting the handles, if desired, butsince this detail is common and known in the art, no latch mechanism is shown. As to the handles, the description will be confined .to the base 1, since, as hereinbefore stated, the handles are mounted in the same way.
.The base 1 has an outstanding tapered boss 17 which is circular in cross section. The numeral 18 designates a cap having an end wall 19, the capbeing provided with a recess 20 which-is shaped to conform to the boss 17, the cap receivin the boss. The numeral 21 designates a 1'0 forming a member of the handle, the member .21 being threaded into the end wall 19 of the cap 18, and being threaded into the boss 17, to bind the boss tightly in the recess 20 of the cap 18, the threading of the rod 21 into the end wall 19 of the cap 18 being shown at 22, and the threading of the rod into the boss being shown at 23. At their outer ends, the rods 21 of the handles have projections 24, in the form of eyes. On the members 21 of the handles are mounted grips 25 of any desired shape and construction. In the present embodiment of the invention, the grips are of spiral form. The grips 25. are engaged at their ends by the eyes 24 and by the end walls 19 of the caps 18. The general construction is such that an unusually strong handle mounting is provided. I
The lug 4 exercises a two-fold ofiice, in
that it houses the valve 11, and, also, carries the socket 7 wherein the finger 16 0f the closure 2 is received. t
The valve need not be constructed precisel v as hereinhefore described. ring to Figure 7, parts hereinhefore described have been designatml h numerals previously u ed, with the suflix a. The valve 11 is of bullet-like form, and has oppositely extended flanges 26 received slidably in oppositely disposed grooves 27 fashioned in the lug and located within the vertical or upright part of the vent passage 8.
Thus, refer- 1 Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is r A cooking utensil comprising a base and a closure on the base, :1 lug on the base, the lug and the base having a vent passage, and a valve controlling the passage, the lug having a socket. and the closure being provided with a finger received in the socket.
In tcst-iu'loirv that I claim the foregoing as my own, have hereto aliixed my signature.
FRED W. ALLEN.
