IMPROVEMENT IN LIME-RIMS.

Specificationforniing part of Letters Patent No. 1623384., dated April 27, 1875; application filed April 6, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID G. ORMSBY, of Pewaukee, in the county of WVaukesha and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lime-Bins; and do hereby declare that the following is a a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain improvements in bins for storing and keeping lime, its object being to keep the atmosphere from its contents, and provided for readily filling and emptying the bin.

The invention consists of a hopper-shaped receptacle constructed with double walls and ceiling, the inner walls of which are covered with roofing-felt, to exclude moisture, the space between the walls being filled or packed with slaked lime or wood-ashes to prevent the penetration of air, and the whole being provided with suitable doors or hatches at the top and bottom for filling with lime and discharging the same, substantially as hereinafter described.

In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved bin, and Fig. 2 a sectional view of the same.

The letter A represents a box or receptacle, narrower at the bottom than the top, in order to allow the contents to be readily removed at the bottom. The said box or receptacle is constructed with double walls B B, the outer wall being covered on its inner side with building-felt, to exclude moisture. The spaces between the joists b b are packed with slaked lime or wood-ashes, to prevent the atmosphere from finding its way through the walls into the bin. The ceiling or top 0 is represented in the drawing lifted away from the bin, in order to more clearly show its construction. Said ceiling is built upon the mouth of the bin, and the spaces between the joists are then filled with lime or ashes, and the whole is floored over, suitable openings or hatches D being left, however, for the purpose of filling the bin. These are secured by means of doors, over which a cement of slaked lime is placed after filling the bin. Near the top of the bin at the back of the same are provided the doors E E, which may be used for filling when de sired. At the bottom of the bin, on both sides, if desired, are the doors F F, for the purpose of allowing the contents to be withdrawn. The inner door is packed around its edges with rubber or felt, to effectually secure the joint formed by the same. When the doors are provided at one side only of the bin, a false inclined bottom is provided, as shown at G, to direct the contents to said doors, and facilitate the removal of the same. The bin may be provided with partitions H, if desired, although these are not absolutely necessary.
