Description
HOLLOW TILE PARTITION TIE PIECE Filed Aug. 28, 1926 F/GJ.

WALTER L. ALBER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
HOLLOW-TILE-PARTITION TIE PIECE.
Application filed August 28, 1926.
This invention relates to means for attaching the upright studs or posts of a door frame in a door opening of hollow t le partitions of buildings, and has for its object:
To provide a structural formation of a plate metal tie piece in which are combined the features of aligning engagement between the adjoining edges of the hollow tile sections of a partition, the anchoring of the tie piece against horizontal shift when 1n place and means of attachment to an upright stud or post of a door frame, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing: I Fig. 1, is a fragmentary side elevation showing the tie piece in place between sec tions of hollow tile and in engagement with the stud or post of a door frame.
Fig. 2, is a horizontal section, on line 2-2 Fig. l. V I
Fig.3, is a perspective view of the narrow type of the tie piece.
Fig. 4, is a similar View of the wide type of the same.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts in the different views.
The preferred form of the tie piece is shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and is adapted to fit the adjacent side walls of a pair of hollow tile sections 1 and 2 at the door opening of a building partition, the scope of the invention however embraces a formation of the tie piece so that the same will span the entire thickness of the hollow tile sections of the narrow type.
In both types of the tie piece, the same is formed from an approximately rectangular blank of plate metal having one or more tongues or extensions 3 at one end and formed with a pair of sllts midway its length, so that when bent in to a channel shape the structure will comprise outer and inner side webs fixedly connected together by a central transverse connecting web 6, with the end portions of said webs 4, 5, extending upwardly to provide pairs of outer and inner side flanges 7 and 8 in parallel relation to provide a receiving channel for a wall porchannel for the 4 and 5 in parallel relation Serial No. 132,077.
tion of a hollow tile section 1 as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the preferred form of the invention, above refered to, the tie piece will. have a single tongue or extension 3 extending from the outer side web 4 aforesaid, while the other form of the and 5 will be provided with-similar tongues 3, as shown in Fig. 4.
A material part of the improvement consists in forming the webs 4 and 5 and side flanges 7 and 8 withinwardly projecting anchor prongs 9 adapted to engage in the usual surface grooves 10 formed in many hollow tile sections, or in specially formed recesses in the plan surfaced tiles, and for the purpose of resisting longitudinal shift of the tie piece.
In the narrow type of the tie piece, the transverse connecting web 6 is integrally formed with the i in the wide type of the tie piece, the said connecting web 6 will be formed as a separate part and secured by angular flanges and rivets to separately formed side webs 4 and 5, with a View to economy of manufacture, and as shown in Fig. 4.
In a practical application, the tie piece is positioned so that the transverse c011- necting web Grests upon the upper end of aholl-ow tile section 2, with the depending side webs 4 and 5, while tie piece, each side web 4.-
Having thus fully described my invention.
what I claim and ters Patent is:
l. A tie piece of the type described, comprising in combination a pair of side webs having upstanding end portions, a connecting web arranged at the mid-height and mid-length of said side webs, and an extendesire to secure by Letsuperimposed tile or upright 11, with 5 side plate for attach- Webs having i inwardly projecting anchor prongs near their respective e ds.
2. A tie piece of the type described, comprising in combination a pair of side Webs having upstanding end portions, a connecting web arranged at the mid-height and mid-length of said'side Webs, and an extension at one end of a side plate forattachment to a door post, the side Webs and their upstanding lower movable projecting anchor prongs.
