Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH J. HOLLOMAN, OF HUMBOLDT, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,654, dated April 27, 1875; application filed April 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. HOLLOMAN, of Humboldt, in the county of Gibson and State of Tennessee, have-invented a new and Improved Cotton-Bale Tie; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure represents a perspective view of the tie with the ends of the wire in position.
The invention will first be fully described in connection with all that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a wire having one end with a hook, B, in a horizontal plane, while the other end has a hook, O, in a vertical plane, turned at right angles to the wire. D is a catchblock whose flat under surface (I rests upon the cotton or other material, while the top surface d supports the wire hook B, while D is a vertical extension from the block D, having the groove (Z to receive the same end of wire, and the perforation d to receive the other end. A wire of suitable length and thickness is obtained, and the hook (J formed on one end, While the other is passed through hole 01 the plate D being carried around until it abuts against the hook G. The wire having been then drawn tightly around the bale, the straight end is bent around the grooved extension D and passed through the loop or hook (l, forming the horizontal hook B. Or the hook B may be formed in advance Where the average circumference of bales are about the same. This is found by repeated trials to make a very cheap, safe, and reliable bale-tie.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is The combination, with a wire having horizontal hook B on one end, and at an angle thereto, on the other end, a vertical hook, O, of the grooved plate D D having hole d, as and for the purpose described.
JOSEPH J. HOLLOMAN. Witnesses:
A. I. D. THURs'roN, J. M. MQKNIGHT.
