. This invention relates to an improved transferring device for cigar machines, havingfor its main object the reduction of a device of this character whic is adapted to .5 receive a bunch from above and dischar e it below 'in order thatthe bunch may be ow cred m receiving position todischarging position, to avoid the difliculties attending the heretofore practice of dropping the go bunches down a chute into the range of action of re-rolling mechanism which sometimes 'resulted in misplaced or damaged bunches, With this and other objects not specifically mentioned in view, the invention 5 consists in certain constructions and combinations which will be hereinafter fully de scribed and then specifically set forth in theclaims hereunto appended. j In the accompanying drawings, which 2 fofm apart ofthis specification and in which h'kecharacters of reference indicato the same or like parts, Fig. 1 isa side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device shown in Fig. 1.
" Referring to the drawings, 3 indicates an arm fulcrumed at 4 too. bracket 5 screwed to the bed of the cigar machine in connection with which the device is used. This arm carries at its free end a bunch holder consisting of a fixed plate 6 extendin laterallytherefrom, anda movable plate? 'nged at 8 to thearm 3. The plate 7 is norfmallyheld in sition to stop a bunch entering-the hol er from above, by means of a 9 one end of which is connected to t e said late and the other to a pin 10 carried byt e arm 3. The arm 3 is a part 'of abell crank consisting of said arm andof another arm '11. The free end of the latter is connected to a link 12 which is also connected at 13 td a pin carried "by a moving part of the cigar machine inconnc tion with which the device is used; as shown,
to the ejector crosshead. This moving art. 1n
has a vertical movement as indicate Fig. 1 by the dotted lines. After a bunch has been received by theholder, which is then closed, the arm is swung downwardly lffrombunchareceiving position, and, just be-" fore it reaches its lowermost position, a
bracket 14 carried b the plate 7 engages a fixed abutment 15 w 'ch stops it and opens.
.the holder, permitting the bunch to dro to the re-rolling device of the ma e' which is ind cated by the dott lines at the right in 'Fig. 1. As soon as the movement of the arm 3 is reversed,"the bracket '14 leaves the. abutment 15 and .the spring 9- again closes the holder ready for the recep- 00 tion of. another bunch on arrival at the up per-end of its movement. The cycle of operation isthen repeated. I
What is claimed is: 7
1. -A bunch transferring device for cigar machines comprising an arm, a bunch holder supported by the free end of said arm,;and adaited to receive a bunchfrom above and disc arge it below and having a-fixed wall and aco-acting spring-held movable wall, 7
in the ath of said holder for opening saidhol or at the lower-end'of its movement.
3. A-bunch transferring device for ci r machinescomp'rising an arm, a buiich hol er supported-by the free end of said arm and -.ada%ted to receive a bunch from abovef'and disc arge it below and havingafixed wall} and a coactingjspringheld' movable-wall, linkage deriving. its motion from a moving part of a cigar machine in connection with which the device isused for swinging v .said arm. downwardly from'bunch "receiv':
ing position to bunch discharging-position, J and means for opening'said hol r at the lower end of its movement.
' arm from bunch receiving position downwardly to bunch discharging position, and
an abutment, said holder having a fixed wall and also having a spring-held movable wall engaging said abutment at the lower 1 end of its movement to open said holder.
In testimony whereof, Lha've' signed my name to this specification;
JOHN FREDRIK .HALSTEAD.
