The invention relates to a latch lock provided with a latch capable of being secured or fastened in its locked or unlocked position, which lock maybe opened on the one hand by means of a cylinder lock and on the o'her hand by means of a turnable han dle or pressure member. In known locks of this kind the securing or fastening of the latch has been possible only from one side of the door (the inside) and has been effected by a separate knob arranged close to the pressure member.
In connection with locks of-this kind it has already been proposed to secure the latch by means of a transverse bolt. In that case there were provided two separate transverse bolts for securing the latch from the outside and from the inside of the door, of which bolts one could be shifted by means of an arm of the boss coupled to the cylinder-lock while, for adjusting the other bolt, there was provided onthe inside of the door a separate handle independent of the handle for retracting the latch. Moreover the securing of the latch eiiected from the inside of the door, could be released from without, while on the other hand the securing efl'ected from the outside could be released only from the outside, but not from the inside. This was attained by the two transverse bolts being coupled together in such manner that the bolt adjustable by the cylinder-lock drove with it in its movement in the direction of latch-retraction the other transverse bolt, while on the other hand in" its movement in the direction of latch-release said bolt moved independently of the transverse bolt adjustable by the cylinder lock.
According to the present invention, this proposed lock is very considerably, simplified in construction and operation in that, for securing the latch from'the outside and inside of the door, only a single transverse bolt is provided, which can be 0 erated both by the arm of the boss couple to the outside cylinder-lock and b the arm of the inside handle-boss or cylin er look. In this case of course provision mustbe made by suitable co-ordination of the two boss-arms and the abutment on the transverse boltcoacting with them that the arm of one boss does not revent movement of the bolt by the arm 0 the other boss. The arrangement- ,may' be suchthat the latch secured by means of the inside handle may be released-by means of the. outside cylinder-lock and vice versa. The lock moreover may, as is known per. se, be so arranged that the latch secured by means of the outside cylinder lock cannot be retracted by means of the inside handle, as will be necessary in many cases to prevent burglars from opening the door from the inside after they have broken open the window possibly fitted to the-door. To this end in the new lock the plate-like abutment or stop on the transverse bolt for retracting the latter need merely be provided with a slot into which the arm of the inside handle-boss enfers and is consequently rendered inoperative when the bolt is moved by the other boss in the securing position. i

This rod is provided with a helical spring h which tends to press the latch bolt into its closing position. Journalled in the lock-bottom b is a boss k provided with a rollback arm 70 and rigidly coupled wlth a turnable handle or pressure member 2' arranged on the outside of the lock-bottom. A second. stop for the arms of the bosses is formed by a plates provided at the upper end of the bolt 0 and arranged at right angles to the plane of the bolt, with which plate the said arms coact in the lower end position of the bolt 0 in order to bring the latter back again into its upper end position by 'turningthe boss in the direction of the opening movement. -The bolt is retained in its end positions by means of a sprin -influenced snap-in bolt t which is guide in a transverse hole in the lock-bottom b and engages in seatings in the bolt.

To release the fastening again, the handle 2' need only be turned in the direction of the opening movement, where by the arm 70 of the boss is in coacting with the stop plate 8 shifts the transverse bolt again into its upper end position. Instead o the latch fastening being released by the pressure member 11 it may be released by the cylinder lock n, the rotary cylinder of the latter being likewise turned in the direction of the opening movement, the arm m of the boss m. shifting the transverse bolt 0 upwards. In a similar manner to that just described the latch which has been pressed back by hand when the door is open may-be fastened in its opening position when the door is not to be retained for the time being. In a lock, a latch bolt having a locking recess, a second bolt movable transversely of the latch bolt and having a locking pin movable into and out of engagement with said recess in the latch belt, a projection on said second bolt spaced from said locking pin and provided with a slot and a pair of contact surfaces, and a pair of rotary bolt actuating members each normally operable independently of the other for bolt projecting and retracting actions, each actuating device being provided with a curved arm for coaction with said locking pin and projection to project and retract said second bolt, the arm of one actuating device being shorter than the other, the short arm of one actuating device being engageable with one contact surface of the projection for retracting said second bolt, and the long arm of the other actuating device being engageable with the other contact surface of said projection for retracting said second bolt, said long arm being movable into the slot of said projection and to a position inoperative for retracting said second bolt following a .bolt' projecting action by the actuating de to successively project the latch bolt and second bolt and in a reverse direction to retract said bolts in inverse order. A lock comprising a casing, a latch bolt slidable therein, spaced interconnected notches formed in said bolt, a second bolt movable transversely of said latch bolt, a pin carried by said second bolt adapted to seat in said notches, and spaced pivoted arms cooperating with said pin for shifting said second bolt to hold said latch bolt in latched or unlatched position.
11. A lock comprising a casing, a latch bolt slidable'therein, spaced interconnected notches formed in said bolt, a second bolt movable transversely of said latch bolt, a pin carried by said second bolt adapted to seat in said notches, resilient means for holding said second bolt in its extreme positions, and spaced pivoted arms cooperating with said pin for shifting said second bolt to hold said latch bolt in latched or unlatched position.
12. A lock comprising a casing. a latch bolt slidable therein, spaced interconnected notches formed insaid bolt, a second bolt movable transversely of said latch bolt, a pin carried by said second bolt adapted to alternately seat in said notches, resilient means for holding said second bolt in its extreme positions, and spaced individually operable pivoted arms for shifting said latch bolt and cooperating with said pin for shifting said second bolt to hold said latch bolt in latched or unlatched position. i
