7 METHOD or TREATING TRAFFIC RAILS.
No Drawing. Original application filed July 19, 1923,
filed October 28, 1925.
Thouse of crushed cohe or of metal filings that can be mixed With a little Water, 01' of a compound of crushed coke and metal filnecessary on railroads on which signalling made through the transn'iissionof the electric impulses sent through trafiic rails, Which impulses have to be picked up by some contact part of the train such as, for instance,
some of the train Wheels.
It is apparent that when sand is employed as the means for preventing the train Wheels from sliding on the rails, there is an. imperfect electric contact between the traific rails and the train Wheels if not a complete insulation, since sand even in crushed condition can be ranged among those materials that have electricity insulating properties.
In order, therefore, to prevent interferencein the transi'nission of the electric impulses sent through trafilc rails and some parts of the train that contact with them, it is necessary to use an electricity conductingmaterial tor sanding the rails, that is, that substitutes the sand and WlllCll has no insulating or automatic control of the trains is properties. I am aware that there are still other materials that might be used for the purpose set forth in this specification, vhich, however, may not be of such practicability as those mentioned, but in all events I claim all those materials-that may be fairly embodied in the spirit and scope of my inven' tion.
:What I claim lsz In a method tortreating traific rails that serve also as electric conductors, crushed trafiic rails for from sliding train Wheels and permitting the transmission of the electric impulses from the train to the trackside or vice versa, as set forth.
