My invention relates to expansible pulleys or the like and has for its primary ob ect to provide im roved means for adjusting the size of a wheel or pulley of this char-ac- 6 ter while-it is moving continuously. One of --the objects of the present invention is to providesuitable means for making accurate speed changes of extreme d elicacy in a moving; picture film while .it is running. By the use of my invention which greatly improves the operation 'ofa continuously movmg film, it becomes possible to, eliminate the perforations on the edges of the film.- These perforations have heretofore been consid- F ered necessary for impartmg the usual mtermittent movementto .a film and roperly spacing the ictures on, o elimlnate the jet y movementsmesultmg from a 3 non-uniform spacing;; o

The combination with a suitable support of a wheel or pulley journaled for rotation thereon and having radially adjacent rim sections, inwardly extending projections associated with each rim section, a conicalportion coaxial with the wheel and engaged by said projections, said conical portion being normally stationary while the wheel revolves, whereby'the projections are adapted to traverse the conical portions circumferentially, and means for shifting the conical portion axially to present difierent portionsof the periphery thereof to the traveling proj ections for the purpose of varying the .diameter of the wheel. i
4. The combination with a suitable support of a wheel or pulley journaledfo'r rotation thereon and having radially adjacent rim sections, inwardly extending projections associated with each rim section, a conical portion coaxial with the wheel and engaged by said projections, said conical portion being normally stationary while the wheel revolves, whereby the projections are adapted to traverse the conical portion circumferentially, and means for shifting the conical portion axiallyto present difierent portions of the periphery thereof to the traveling projections for the purpose of varying the diameter of the wheel, and a continuous annular elastic band embracing the circumference of the wheel to maintain the projections in contact with the conical portion.
5. The combination with a suitable support of a wheel or pulley journalled for r0- tation thereon and having radially adjacent rim sections, inwardly extending projections associated with each rim section, a conical portion coaxial with the wheel and engaged by said projections, said conicalportion being normally stationary while the wheel revolves, whereby the projections are adapted to traverse the conical portions circumferentially, a threaded portion associated with the conical portion and having threaded engagement with the support to effect longitudinal adjustment of the conical portion and present different parts of the periphery thereof to the traveling projections for the purpose of varying the diameter of the wheel.

The combination with a suitable support of a wheel or pulley having radially adjacent rim sections, bearing means for journalling the wheel forrotation on the support, and means for radially adjusting said rim sections, said adjusting means being independent of the bearing means, whereby the ournalling of the wheel is accomplished independently of the rim adjustment means thereof to keep the adjusting means free from the rotation of thewheel.
7. The combination with a supporting frame, of a wheel or pulley journalled thereon and embodying a plurality of adjacent rim sections, an adjusting spindle having threaded engagement with the frame and provided with a tapered portion, means associated with the ad acent rim sections and bearing against the tapered portion of the spindle, and means for manually rotating the spindle to longitudinally shift its tapered portion for the purpose of varying thediameter of the wheel, said tapered portion being stationary except during such adjustment.
