UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IRVDTG KBAYSLER,'OF NEW YORK, Y., ASSIGNOR TO FARBER-KRAYSLER & BBQ, A COPARTNERSHIP COMPRISING AS PARTNERS JULIAN FARBER, OI BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, AND IRVING KRAYSLER AND MAX KRAYSLER, BOTH OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BRACELET.
Application filed April 3, 1926. Serial No. 99,438.
The present invention relates to an improvement in bracelets and the like, one object being to provide a link construction whereby the link units making up a bracelet may be detachable and interchangeable so that by inserting or removing links, the bracelet can be made of suitable length. A further object of the invention has been to provide a bracelet in which the component links are detachable but in which the looking or connecting devices are practically concealed and are so positioned that the links may not readily become detached by accident. A further object of the present invention has been to provide a bracelet which to the wearer appears to be a permanently connected series of links but which, by reason of its construction, can be readily taken apart by a jeweler or dealer without cutting or otherwise destroying the connecting pins or pivots.
One embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the drawings accompanying the present specification, and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of a section of bracelet,
Figure 2, a side elevation with a portion of one link broken away, and
Figure 3, a longitudinal section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, my improved bracelet is made up of a plurality of links 1 each comprising spaced side members 2, one end thereof being provided with a substantially semi-circular projection and the other end being provided with a similarly sha ed re-entrant notch. Pivot holes 3 exten through the side members and are concentric with the semi-circular projections. At the opposite end is a housing 4 adapted to receive and retain one or more ielding pivots 5 projecting through a suitab e openmg therein and so positioned thatthe housing of one link will extend between the projections of the next linktso that the pivots in said housing may readil engage the pivot receiving openings or ho es 3 of the next link. It is contem lated that one of said pivots may be fixe if desired, while the other will be held in normal link engaging position by means of a spring as 6 positioned in housing 4. When the links are assembled, the pivot 5 extends through the pivot receiving hole 3 where it is retained by pressure of spring 6. To disengage one link from the-next, the pivot 5 may be pressed downwardly through thehole 3 until the end is clear of said hole whereupon, by swinging one link with respect to the other, they may be separated. The positioning of the housing 4 with respect to the side members, as hereinabove described, brings the central transverse axis of the pivots into alignment with the joint between contiguous links and thereby permits the fullest freedom of turning without undue displacement of the upper edge of one link with relspeict to the adjacent upper edge of the next in r.
The present invention will be of great utility in the novelty jewelry trade in that it will be possible by the use of the constructionherein described to produce a bracelet of very simple and beautiful lines. It will further be possible to detach and remove any given link or links for purposes of repair or for the urpose of roducing a given length of brace et. It wil also be apparent that a wide variety of forms of embellishment may be applied to different links having uniform interconnecting devices so that with a relatively small stock of separate links, a retail dealer could make up bracelets of varying designs and of any desired length.
I claim as my invention:
1. A bracelet comprising a disengageable links each inclu ing a ody having side members provided with opposed pivot receiving holes extending through one end, a housing positioned between the other ends of said members, a yielding pivot projecting through an end of said housing, a spring in the housing normally ressin said pivot outwardly, the housing 0 one 0 said links being operatively positioned between the pivot receiving holes in the side members of an adjacent link, and said yielding pivot extending into one of said holes and exposing an end portion therein whereby luralit of pressure may be applied to said end portion end portions of said spring receiving housof said pivot through said hole to depress ings. the pivot into disengaged position. In testimony whereof, I have signed my 10 2. A bracelet accordin to claim 1 and named to this specification this 29th day of b i'urther characterized in t at the side mem- March, 1926.
hers are provided with semi-circular shaped extensions positioned to overlap and conceal IRVING KRAYSLER.
