' on the-generator with both hands and obviating the present practice of a workman,
incident to the cylindrical shape of the generator having to hold the generator with one hand while workingon the generator with the other'hand.
A further object is to provide an electric generator holder comprising a standard attached to a Work bench, the upper end of which standard terminates in an annular contractible stand adapted to be contracted into binding engagement with the periphery of a generator for holding said generator.
A further object is to provide the adjacent ends of the contractible band with registering notches thereby forming a recess through which the terminal of the generator may be passed in placing the generator in the-device. A further object is to provide means for contracting the band, said means comprising abolt extending through registering apertures in the upper. end of the .standard and the free end of the contractible band below the terminal receiving notch, one end of said bolt having threaded thereon a nut, and the other end provided with a cam lever, and by means of which bolt the cam lever may be properly adjusted in relation to the free end of the contractible band whereby the gripping operation may be adjusted.
With theabove and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing fronr thespirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a conventional form of generator of the type used inconnection with automobile engines, and which generator is cylindrical shaped, and it is obvious when a .1926. Serial m. 93,181.-
workman places the same on a work bench 2, it will be necessary for him to hold the generator with one hand while working on the same with the other hand, which operation is an extremely laborious one, and it allows the workman to use only one hand to manipulate tools. To obviatethe a'bove difficulty a vertically disposed standard 3 is prov1ded,.which standard is secured to the upper side'of the work bench 2. The upper end of the standard 3, at one side thereof,
terminates in an upwardly extending arm 4,' wh1ch forms an angularly shaped recess 5,
and the arm 4 terminates in th'e'contractiblc spring band 6, which is adapted to be forced nto closefrictional engagement with the outer periphery of the generator 1.
The end 7 of the contractible band 6 is provided with a downwardly. extending arm 8, which is disposed in the recess 5, and wh ch arm is provided with a recess 9 which registers with a recess 10 carried by the upper end of the arm 4, thereby form- 111g a transverse passage through which the generator terminal 11-. is passed when placing the generator within the contractible .band. Extending through the arm 8 and the arm 4 below the recesses 9 and 10 is a bolt 12, on one end of which is threaded a butterfly nut 13, and to the other end of which is pivotally connected at 14 a cam lever 15, which cooperates with the outer face of the arm 8 and forces the same Inwardly thereby contracting the band 6 into close and binding engagement with the periphery of the generator 1. By adjusting the nut 13 on the bolt 12, it will be seen a limited range of adjustability may be obtained for properly adjusting the cam lever 15 incident to variations in diameter of the generator and irregularities therein.
In operation the generator is passed through one end or side of the contractible band 6 and the terminal 11 through the recesses 9 and 10, and at which time the band is in expanded position and the cam lever 15 in raised position. After the generator has been placed within the band the same lever 15 is forced downwardly, thereby cooperating with the arm 8 and forcing the same towards the arm 4, thereby contracting the band into engagement with the periphery of the generator.
1 From the above it will be seen that a work holder is provided which is particularly adapted for holding generators of the Ill] type used in connection with engines of mo tor driven vehicles, simple in construction, the parts reduced to a minimum, and the device may be cheaply manufactured and sold.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A work holder comprising a vertically disposed support, the upper end-of said support terminating at one side thereof in an upwardly extending arm thereby forming a recess, a contractible hand, one end of the contractible band being carried by the upwardly extending arm of the support, the other end of said band terminatsupport, a bolt extending t irough the upwardly extending arm of the support and the downwardly extending arm of the band, and a cam lever carried by said bolt and cooperating with the downwardly extending arm, whereby said arm may be forced inwardly and the band contracted.
