My invention relates to receptacles. An object in general is to provide a receptacle for containing various commodities such as candy, peanuts, popcorn, and other edible material which is in comparatively small pieces but it will be understood that the receptacle may be used for other material such as small hardware articles. A special object is to provide a container which may be readily opened and closed without the removal of a cap or other closure device.

The full objects and advantages of my in vention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof, and the novel features of my inventive idea will be particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of my 111- vention,-

Referring to the construction shown in the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a cylindrical tube which is adapted to rotate in an outer cylindrical tube 12 which is shorter at both ends than the inner tube 10. At one end, the outer tube butts against a ringl'e which is glued or pasted upon the inner tube 10. At the other end, the outer tube butts against a narrow ring 16 which is secured upon the inner tube 10. At this latter end, the receptacle is closed by a cap 18 having a marginal. flange which extends loosely over the ring 16 and is then secured to the tube 12. At the other end, the receptacle is closed by a cap 20 having a marginal flange which is secured to the ring 14. It will now be obvious that by holding the cap 18 or the tube 12 in one hand and the cap 20 or the ring 14L in the other hand, the two tubes may be rotated relatively to each other. At the same time, the rings ME and 16 prevent the two tubes from longitudinal movement relatively to each other. are preferably oval in shape may be made to register with each other as shown in Figs. 3 and 5. Upon rotating the tubes relatively to each other, the receptacle will be placed in closed condition as will be obvious from Figs. 2 and 4:. The receptacle may be made from any suitable material and in one form may consist of pasteboard which permits the rlngs 1d and 16 and the caps 18 and 20 to be readily pasted in position.

The operation and advantages of my invention will now be obvious. The receptacle may be readily placed in open position when desired for removal of all or a portion of the contents but there is no liability of the receptacle becoming accidentally opened, and furthermore there is no cover or cap to be removed and which might be dropped and lost.

I claim 1. A receptacle of suitable material comprising an inner cylindrical tube, a'. cylindrical tube rotatably surrounding said inner tube and shorter at both ends than the latter, a ring secured around one end of said inner tube and against which said outer tube butts, a cap secured to said ring a second ring secured around the other end of said inner tube and against which said outer tube butts, and a cap extending loosely over said second ring and secured to said outer tube, said tubes having corresponding openings in their sides which may be made to reglster upon relative rotation of the tubes.

2. A receptacle of suitable material comprising an inner cylindrical tube, a cylindrical tube surrounding said inner tube and shorter at both ends than the latter, a comparatively wide ring secured around one end or said inner tube and against which said outer tube butts, a cap secured to said ring, a comparatively narrow ring secured around the other end of said inner tube and against which said outer tube butts, and a cap extending loosely over said narrow ring and secured to said outer tube, said tubes having corresponding openings in their sides which may be made to register upon relative to tation of the tubes.
