This invention relates to a new and useful .improvement5 in ground anchors such as are employed in connection with rods to which ropes, cables, etc., may be connected. In using ground anchors of the type here-l in contemplated, an opening, such as indicated at A in the drawing, is preferably formed in the ground by a posthole digger or other implement'l and at an angle, as shown. The guy rod4 B is then driven through the ground so that its innerthreaded end projects into the opening A, as shown in Figure, 1, afterA which the ground anchor is engaged with the threaded end of the guy rod and said 'guy'rod turned so as to seat its threaded end into the anchor. The guy rod B may have an eye C formed on its outer end, to which eye is intended to be secured the end of the cable or rope to beanchored.

I prefer to thread the semicircular openings 10 in the pivotal-jaws after the nut 15 is placed in position using the threaded opening in nut 15 as a-guide for'the tap which forms the threaded openings 10 1n the jaws, thus insuring correct registration of the threaded openings 10 and the threadedv opening in the nut 15. The boxlikestructure which houses in the movable-jaws and their spring, serves to protect these moving' parts from the entrance of dirt or other foreign particles which might interfere with their operation at the time that the ground anchor is being introduced into position on the guy rod. After i he guy rod is engaged with the movable jaws, then dirt packed behind said jaws and in the space between the jaws andthe housing serves to hold said jaws fixed, and, hence, isnot objectionable.
When the rod is screwed into the anchor, its threads pass from engagement with the threads offthe movable jaws, into engagement with the threads-in the opening in the nut, and, hence, the rod has a solid threaded engagement with Vsaid nut and `said anchor plate. It is obvious that the rod may be unscrewed from the plate at any time even though the anchor plate per se should be abandoned.
What I claim is 1. In a ground anchor, a body ortion, a

mounted on the body for receiving and holding a guy rod in a predetermined position to engage said nut.
2. In a ground anchor, a body, a` nut secured thereon and resilient means for guiding a threaded guy rod, moved transversely of the axis of said nut, into. proper .relation to said nut whereby threaded enjaws for receiving and guiding said rod. 4. A ground anchor c'ompr' ing a` body portionvhaving a boxlike ho sing on its upper side, a pair fof/spring held jaws 'l arranged in said housing for engagement with a guy'rod, the .contiguous faces voisaid jaws being provided with registering threaded semicylindrical recesses,^` and aV nut arranged in, position on said'body portion and provided with a threaded opening forA receiving said guy rod. In combination, a ground anchor comprising an anchor plate, a nut having threaded openings and iixedly secured in position on said plate, a guy rod adapted for Y threaded engagement with and disengagement vfroml said nut, and means for guiding said guy rod intoposition' to engage the threaded opening in `said nut.v
