Application fi led July-16, 1926. Serial No. 122,912.
This invention relates to mixers for concrete, mortar and plaster of the type utilizing drums adapted to be operated by .hand and more particularly is directed. to the type of mixer patented 'byme April 22, 19%,N0. 1,490,952. An object of theinvention is the provision of a concrete mixer including an oscillatory drum in which are provided stag gered v walls of *the drum which will produce a concrete of stronger compressive strength with less manual effort. 7. j
A further object of the invention' is the provision of a mixer including a manually oscillated drum which is equipped internally with staggered graterods running longitudinally in spaced relation of the drum and supported by Another object of the invention is the provision of steel supports for a mixer by which it is'possible to quickly elevate the mixer for discharging the mixture of concrete'into a wheel barrow, the steel supports eliminating the usual temporary wooden supports. r
A still, further object of theinvention is the provisionof a mixe havinga plurality of steel platforms or -steps for the operatorto use so that the mixer may be. very conveniently operated. s
This invention will be best understoodfrom -a considerationof the following de- 0f the accom-" panying drawings forming a part of the tailed description in view specification; nevertheless it is to be under- ,stood'that the invention is not confined to the disclosure, being susceptible of such changesand modificationswhich shall defineno material departure from the salient features of the invention' as expressed in the appended-claimsj- 1 Y of my invention and In the drawings: Figure 1 1s a slde vlewof a m xer constructed in accordance with the princlples show'the interior. V I
Figure 2 is a front end View with the drum partly broken away.
Figure .3 is a section along the line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1O designates a table or frame which is carried at its forward end by means of U-shaped legs 11 and at the rear end by,
I the outer or platform- 31 is carried by the the conveying-of the same. partly broken away to adjacent the top of the drum.
shaped metal members 14. A b
members. in spaced relation. A pair. of
and a bar 34 which'hasan attachment3 5 at its upper end adapted to engage the re- 'i'nforcedend of the frame 36' for the discharge opening of the drum 21. A "step bar '33. Means are provided in the form of a- U-. shaped cleat 38 and a bolt 39 for securing a tongue to the mixer inorder to aid in A hand grip 40 secured to-the front end ofthe frame is located adj just described;
Located transversely'of the interior of the drum and in spaced relation and alsoin a "plane whic'hpasses through the lower end of the openingto the drum are pairs of transverse supporting bars 41 and 4:2 10- cated'adjacent the bottom of the drum and a pair of supporting rods43 and 44 located Running- Macs.
nel members 13 carried by rectangular race bar -15 bolted to thelower ends of the supports I 14- is adapted to aid inmaintaining said ends of the frame by metal plates I A second platform or foot rest 31 is mounted' intermediate the ends of the acent the tongue securing means longitudinally of the top of the drum are a plurality of grate bars 45 which are secured to the top edges of the supporting rods 43 and 44 while grate bars 46 are secured to the loweredges of the bars'43 and 44 and in staggered relation with the upper bars 44. Similarly adjacent the bottom of the drum are a plurality ofgrate bars 47 secured to the top edges of the transverse supports 41 and 42-while grate bars 48 are secured to the lower edges oi said supportlng bars. The support-mg bars are pro- -videdw1th flanges 49 which are securedto the side walls of the drum.
'Vanes 50 have their ends CllSPOSGdLlIl differentplanes and are located adjacent the sides :of the drum. These vanes are supported above the bottom of the drum.
Small vanes52 are carried bycleats 53 at the ;rear of the drum and adjacent the bottom.
The drum21 is manually operated by the handle 22 which projects forwardly of the ropenend 36 and the drum isoscillated onthe trunmons 20 carried by thestandards 18. {The concrete which, mustpass through the- -grate bars 45 to 48 inclusive 1S :thoroughly mixed w t-lirthe-water and other maiterials so that a concrete'of stronger compressivestrength is obtained and a better andmorethoroughly mixed concrete is provided due to the fact that the concrete must assthru the staggered gratebars. Even .lwhen the drum is tilted the concrete must beactedupon-bythe vanes 50, and 51 before the same is dischar ed from the drum,-so thatzthe concrete will be givenan additional mixing at this time and be directed towards the open end.
VVhat I claimis: "1. 'In adevice of the character described, a drum mounted for oscillation about a fixed laxis and having a normally open end, supportingbarssecured to theiside walls of the drum and extendin 'transversel of the same, other-supportingbars located at a higher level than the first;mentioned supporting bars, ;the ends of the supporting .bars being secured to the side walls ofthe drum, and grate bars secured to :the supporting bars and extending longitudinally of; the drum.
2.1In-a device of the character described, a drum mounted for oscillation abouta fixed axis and, having a'normall been end supporting bars-secured to the side walls of the drum and extending transversely of the same, other supporting bars located at a higherjlevel than the first mentioned sup porting bars, the ends of thesupporting bars being secured to the side walls of the drum and extending same,
cated in staggered relation. r
drum, and grate bars secured to t-he supporting bars and extending longitudinally of,
the drum, alternate grate bars being disposed upon opposite sides of the supporting bars. 1
