The object ot this invention is to secure a key when in the door-lock from being turned from the outside. The construction and manner of applying the fastener to the key are as follows A piece of wire of a given length is bent to the shape shown in Fig. 1, wherein it will be seen that one end of said wire is bent into a loop, A, Fig. 3, whereas the opposite end passes through the loop and terminates in a hook, B. Theloop also serves asaguidefor the movement of the hook. The application of the fastener to the key will be readily understood on examination of Fig. 2, in which it will be seen that the fastener is suspended from the neck of the door-knob by the hook B, while the lower end or stem 0 passes through the bow of the key. To apply the fastener the lower end is first inserted in the bow of the key; the hook is then pressed forward, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1, to allow of its being hooked upon the neck of the door-knob, as shown in the drawing.
It will be obvious that the key cannot be turned in the look so long as the stem 0 remains in the bow; hence the lock cannot be picked or unlocked from the outside.
The wire being made of steel, the stem forms a spring for throwing back the hook when pressed forward, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A key-fastener consisting of one piece of wire, bent as described, having a spring-stem, 0, formed by the return of the wire, and provided with a guide-loop, A, at one end thereof, and at the opposite end with a spring-hook, B, extending from the said stem O, in combination with a door-key, substantially as herein set forth.
