DISPENSING STAND.
Application filed March 17, 1925.
This invention relates to dispensing stands, and aims to improve generally the construction as illustrated in my pend ng application filed March 21, 1924, and bearing 1 tierial Number 700,884.
The important feature of the invention is to provide novel means to facilitate the repair of the valve member form lng a part of the device, the construction being such as to permit the valve to be readily and easily removed from the stand.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means to permit water trapped in the pipe, after the device has been used for filling the radiator or other receiving receptacle to drain therefrom, thereby insuring against the water freezing to render the valve inoperative.
A still further object of the invention is to improve the bearing for the movable head, forming a part of the dispensin stand construction.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de' scribed and claimed. it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dis pensing stand constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View thcrethrough.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the dispensing stand.
Figure 41 is a sectional view through the valve and valve housing, illustrating the valve in its closed position.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the base of the dispensing stand which is provided with suitable cut out portions indicated at 6 allowing easy access to the supply pipe 7 that ex tends upwardly therethrough, it being understood that a suitable valve mechanism not shown may be positioned in the pipe line 7 to permit the supply of water through the pipe 7 to be cut ofi when repairs are to be made to the mechanism positioned thereabove.
Suitable openings are provided in the base Serial No. 16,178.
for the reception of the bolts 8 that may be embedded in the concrete base indicated at 9, nuts 10 being provided on the bolts for securing the base 5 to the base 9, in a manner as illustrated by Figure 1 of the drawings.
The reference character 11 indicates the main pipe or housing which is connected to the pipe 7 by means of the union 12, the pipe 11 being held against movement with respect to the base 5 by means of the set screws 13 that extend through the base 5 and collar 14 disposed between the pipe 11 and base 5.
The upper end of the housing 11 is closed by the cap 15 which is fitted thereover and which is provided with a central opening through which the pipe 16 extends, the pipe 16 having its upper threaded extremity positioned in the head 17 that is provided with a bore 18 through which fluid passes.
Positioned at the upper end of the housing 11 is a stop plate 19 which is formed with a central opening through which the pipe 16 extends. '1 he ends of the plate 19 are positioned in suitable openings formed in the housing 11, whereby the plate is held against movement.
Adjustably mounted on the pipe 16 is a collar 21 that engages the lower end of the coiled spring 22 that has its upper end bearing against the plate 19, to the end that the pipe 16 is urged downwardly by the spring 22. The supply pipe which has communication with a suitable water supply is indicated at 23 and connects with the pipe 7 through the medium of the valve'housing 24 which is formed with vertical bores 25 that establish communication between the pipe 23 and pipe 7, to the end that whenthe valve mechanism to be hereinafter more fully described 57 has been moved to its inactive position, fluid may pass upwardly through the bores 25. Arranged between the bores 25 are angularly disposed bores 26 that act as bleed openings to permit water to draintrom the pipe 16 when the valve member is closed so that fluid willnot stand in the pipe 16 to insure against damage to the mechanism by freezing, it. being understood that the upper ends of the bores 26 are arranged with such respect to the lower ends of the bores 25 that when the valve member is moved to its active or closing position, the bores 26 will be open to accomplish their purpose.
The valve mechanism is carried by the lower end of the pipe 16 and includes the union 17 which is shown as having a threaded connection with the pipe 16; Head 27 forms a part of the valve structure and includes vertical bores 28 that establish communication between the bores 25 and pipe 15 through which the fluid passes to the discharge pipe.
Formed centrally of the head 27 is an opening through which the valve stem 29 extends the valve stem being threaded and provided with a nut 80 at its upper end to adjuetably support the rod This rod 29 carries a valve 31 which is adapted to move downwardly to a position opposite the lower ends of the bores 25 to close the bores and prevent fluid from passing therethrough.
A hearing opening indicated at 32 is formed in the head 17 and accommodates the reduced end of the adjustable bearing 33 that extends through a threaded opening in the movable section 3% which is cut away to accommodate the head 17'.
Formed in the section is an opening to accommodate the bearing 35 which is formed with abore adapted to communicate with the bore 18, the bearing being provided with a threaded opening at one end to accommodate the union 36 that connects with the pipe 37 and moves therewith. This bearing 35 is formed with a reduced end portion 35 that is'fitted in the opening 36 rorined in the head 17 to support the head.
The reference character 38 indicates a discharge pipe which has one end thereof threaded into the section 35 and has coin munication with the pipe 16 through the head 17, the bearing 35, union 36 and pipe 37, the latter being shown as having an extension 39 threaded into the pipe 38.
Mounted on the pipe 38 are spaced arms 40 which are provided with elongated openings ll that accommodate thebolts 42 that also extend into the weight 4:3 so that the weight 43 may be adjusted longitudinally of the arms 40 to cause the pipe 38 to be normally held in a vertical or upright position.
As clearly shown by Figure 3 of the drawings, the bearing members 33 and are so positioned that eccentrics or cani surfaces at are provided which engage the cap l5, causing the pipe 16 to be elevated when the pipe 38 is moved to a horizontal position.
Connected with the outer end of the pipe 38 is a flexible discharge pipe 45 which is supplied with a suitable nozzle 46 so that water may be fed into a radiator or other receptacle Supported by the housing 11 is an air supply pipe 47 that connects with the air discharge pipe 48 through the medium of the flexible pipe section 49. The pipe 48 is counter-balanced by the weight 50 adjust-ably supported by the arm 51 to the end that when the pipe is released by the person using the device, the pipe 48 will be moved to itsinactive or vertical position. 7 in the operation of the device, the member 45 is pulled downwardly whereupon the care surfaces 4% move over the cap 15 causing the pipe 16 and valve mechanism supported at the lower end thereof to be el vated to a position above the lower ends 01 the bores 25 with the result that water may pass upwardly therethrough and into the pipe 16 from where it passes through pipe 37 and pipe 38 into the discharge or flexible pipe 45. When the pipe 45 is released. the weight 43 will overba-lance the pipe b8, to the end that the valve member 31 will be moved to shut oii' the passage of fluid through the bores 25. It follows that the water remainin the pipe 16 will be drained through bores 26. r
I claim: A dispensing stand including a base, an elongated housing supported by the base, a valve housing supported under the first mentioned housing and in coin'i'nunication therewitln said valve housing having lateral and upwardly extending bores to permit fluid to pass upwardly therethrough, said valve housing having bores disposed between the first mentioned bores and establishing communication between the interior of the valve housing and atmosphere, a vertically movable piston valve operating in the valve housing said piston valve adapted to normally lie between the laterally and upwardly extending horse to close the bores, said piston valve adapted to move to uncover the laterally and upwardly extending bores to allow fluid to pass therethrough, and vertically movable discharge pip-e o ierating in the housing, and on which the valve member .is mounted, and means for delivering fluid from the discharge pipe.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto atlixed my signature. I
GEORGE H. RUSSELL.
