BOTTLE CLOSURE.
Application filed December 23, H211.
This invention relates to improvements in bottle closures.
'lhe object ot the invention is lo provide an improved bottle cios-ure liavii'ig lne-ans adapted to extend into the bottle so that when the closure or cap is removed the contents of the bottle within the neck may be .su'liiciently stirred or loosened to facilitate removing of the contents ot the bottle. rl`he improved closure is especially adapted to be used in connection with catsup bottles and sin'iilar semi-'duid substances.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will be made manifest in the lfollowing detailed description, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference is had to the accoi'npanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bottle, parts being broken away to show the improved closure as applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section through a portion ot' the improved closure.
F 3 is a horizontal section taken substantially upon the line 3-3 ot' Figure 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout;
A suitable cap 10 may be threaded onto or otherwise secured upon the neck 11 of a bottle B. A member 12, preferably formed of sheet metal or the like, is secured upon the underside of the cap 10 and has its ends bent downwardly, as at 13 and 14, so as to be disposed within the neck 11. The ends 13 and 14 of the member 12 are provided with angular extensions 15 and 16 respectively, which extensions in the preferred form of construction, are bent slightly inward so that they are not concentric within the neck 11, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
The lower edge of each of the extensions 15 and 16 is curved outwardly, as indicated at 17, so that the inside of each of the eX- tensions is somewhat dished. The member 12 may be soldered or otherwise secured upon the underside of the cap 10 and a cork ring or similar gasket forming structure, as indicated at 18, may be disposed about the member 12 upon the under side of the cap 10.
The operation of the improved closure is as follows:
Frequently the semi-fluid contents of bottles becomes thickened in the neck of the bottle so that it is diicult to pour the con Serial No. 257,G33.
lents therefrom. lWhen the cap 10 is unscrewed or removed from the neck 11, preierably by an upward rotary motion, the members 13 and 141, together with the dished extensions, rotate within the nen; as they are being withdrawn. Because oi the shape oi" the members 13 and 1e and oi' the dished extensions 15 and 16, the contents within the neck is sntciently stirred to insure its fluidity, so that the contents may be readily poured through the neck.
As clearly shown upon the drawings, the members 13 and 14 bear against the interior of the neck for substantially their complete length. ln bottles containing semi-fluid substances such as ketchup and the like, the substance tends to thicken :ind harden against the interior surface o1l the bottle, consequently upon the rotation of the cap the members 13 and 1+i bear against the interior surface of the bottle and loosen this substance which tends to stil'en and adhere to the interior of the bottle.
From the above it is seen that an improved bottle closure is provided, consisting of a cap having a member secured thereto which extends downwardly within the neck ot the bottle, which member is adapted to stir up the contents of the bottle upon being withdrawn, thus facilitating the pouring ot the contents through the neck.
It will be understood that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit or scope of the invent-ion, as dened by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A bottle closure comprising an imperforate cap adapted to be secured about the neck of a. bottle, a member secured to said cap and extending downwardly within the neck of said bottle when said cap is in applied position, said member present-ing a dished surface adjacent its lower end.
2. A bottle closure comprising an imperforate cap adapted to be secured about t-he neck of a bottle, a member secured to said cap and extending into said neck, and an angular extension secured adjacent the e-nd of said member within said neck, said eX- tension presenting a dished surface substantially as shown and described.
3. A bottle closure comprising an imperforate cap adapted to be secured about the neck of a bottle, a member secured upon the lll) under side of said Cap, said member having its ends=bentdownwardly within the neck o' the bottle when said cap is in applied position, said ends being provided with angularY extensions, said angular extensions` being@ presentingdshed surfaces, anda cork ring seoured upon thek under 'side ot said cap about" said' member;
iibottle having a 'neck on `the"'topA of' whi'ehis Vmounted' an nnperorate cap, a'
membersecuredf to the `cap and'extending downwardly within the `neck when the cap is` in applied position,`Y said" ineinber being sov arranged as to bearv against thek interior ofitheneel substantially its' complete length vidinga lateral' extension on the'bott'om of the member which is disposed adjacent the interior surface of the bottle.
Q'Aqbottle having a neck 'on the top ot' which is mounted an imperforate cap, members secured to the cap and extending downwardl5T into the interior of the bottle when the Cap is in applied position, said members being so arranged as to bear against the interior of the bottle for substantially their complete length, and means providing lateral extensions adjacent the lower 'ends o'f"said members which are disposed adjaeentthe interior surface oi' the'bottle.
to the under side olitlieeap, said strip having is ends `bent downwardly to' provide two substantially straight membersV adaptedAA to against-the interior surface of'tliebottle;
ln testimony whereof l have signed myY naineto this specification.
