Application led August 26, 1926. Serial No. 131,666.
This invention pertains to a pocket decoration particularly in the form of a pocket handkerchief usually carried in the breastpocket of the coat.
The object of the .invention is to provide a relatively small breast-pocket handkerchief which is removably mounted in an anchoring member adapted to be inserted in the breasti pocket so that the tips ofthe handkerchief will protrude therefrom. This willk give a similar appearance to a full sized handkerchief such as is commonly carried in this manner. y Y f The advantages inherent in the invention reside in the fact that the anchor member is relatively thin and fiat so as to not cause a bulging of the pocket as is the case with the ordinary handkerchief. Furthermore it enables one to use-an appreciably smaller handkerchief which may be purchased at considerably less cost than if it wer-e full sized;
The` full nature of the invention will be understood from thel accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.
F ig. 1 is a front elevation illustrating the manner of positioning the article in the pocket. Fig. 2 is a front elevation Lthereof showing the `handkerchief mounted in the anchor. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the hand- 4 kerchief used in this manner.
In the drawings there is shown an individual wearing a `coat 10 having a breast-pocket 11 with the tips of the handkerchief 12 protruding therefrom in the usual manner. As illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3, the handkerchief is one of the usual square of rectangular shape, hemstitched about its edges but appreciably smaller in size than the usual handkerchief worn in this manner. l n
For positioning the handkerchief in 'the pocket, and holding it in such fashion as to cause the tips thereof to be suitably folded forprojecting therefrom, there is provided an anchor member 13 which'may be in the form of any thin but stiff material, and preferably made of Celluloid. However, it has been made of heavy cardboard. Said anchor 13 may consist of a single flat piece ofy mate- 'the combination with a handkerchief, of an rial such as Celluloid or cardboard, or as shown herein, may comprise two separate members adjustable with respect to each other." The member 13a is shown to be circular in outline and provided with a slotted strip 13D through which an elongated strip 3U may extend having a flared bottom 13d at one end and the opening 14 at the other end. This permits the strip 13c `to slide within the slit portion'131J for adjusting the distance of the hole 14 from the bottom of y 1,620,904 r Aram @ors-iria.
the anchor. The flared portion 13b will prevent it from being withdrawn upwardly,
I while at the same time it is removable from therother end. This permits the position of the handkerchief to be adjusted with respect to the depth of the pocket.
In use, the handkerchief is inserted in the Vopeningd4 of the'anchor member by passing one cornerthereof therethrough and pulling it into position unt-il it is held about its central portion whereby the diagonal corners will be equi-distant in said member. It is then folded upwardly in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2 so that when rplaced in the ing used since they `are readily removable from the member 13 for washing or changmg with respect to color and design. By reason of the nature of the material in passing through thel opening 14, itwill receive the desired folds which will give it the appearance of the usual handkerchief as contrasted with other devices of this character. The invention claimed is: 'f l i 1. In an article ofthe character described, ar'ectangular handkerchief and a retaining anchor therefor comprising two members adjustable with respect toeach other, oneofv said members having an opening therein,v
said members consisting of relativelyV flat and stiff material, whereby said handkerchief maybe inserted in said opening and retained by said anchor in adjusted position with respect to the bottom thereof.
2. In an article of the character described, Y
anchor member therefor comp-rising elongated flat stiff material having an opening adjacent one end thereof, said opening'being adapted to removably receive said .handkerchief for securing it in position and causing its ends to be folded for display.
3. In an article of the character described, the combination with a handkerchief, of an anchor member therefor comprising a lower fiat piece of material having a pair of parallel slots therein, and a member slidable with respect thereto in said slots, said member having an opening at the upper end thereof for receiving the handkerchief and lateral 10 extending portions at the bottom thereof for preventing its passage through said slots,
whereby the same is adjustable in heighty with respect to the lower member.
