TIRE-CHAIN CATCH.

My invention relates to a readily attachable and detachable catch or coupling capable of general application butiparticularly desirable for use on non-skid chains of automobile tire armor, in view of its ease of vattachment and detachment and its adapt-ability for repair.
A prime object is to provide a catch of this nature having two lock levers provided with inclined receiving walls which are movable to a position flush with the inclined receiving walls of the casing to facilitate .engagement with the chain or other` article as will be hereinafter particularly. pointed out.
Additional objects and advantages will also be pointed out hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating one preferred embodiment- Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a tired wheel and non-skidchain having my improvement associated therewith.

A casing is provided for the working parts of the catch or couplin preferably being made in two parts, name y, a box section 7 and a cover section 8,l pivotally secured thereto ,by the said ring 6 which passes thro-ugh openings 9 therein. A plurality of removable bolts 10 and 11 .may secure the sections 7 and 8 together.
' Arcuate lock levers 12 and 13-are pivotally mounted on the bolt 11 and have'releas'mg arms 14 extending through openings or'slots 15 in-the sides of the casing. Each lever rests on top of the other and for this reason the said slots 15 are liSaIigned. Tourge the lever/s outward at the arms 14, a spring 16 is employed which is fastened to theA said arms 14 as shown in Figure 3.
The end walls of the sections 7A and 8 at the entrance are beveled at 17 toward a central pocket 18. Arms are provided on the levers .at 19 which terminate in hooks 1926. Serial No. 119,562.

These h ooks are designated 2O and have substantially flat or inclined walls 21 to receive the ring 5 and which project 'beyond the walls f 17 as shown in Figure 3. One of the hooksis urged against a block 22 on the section 7 while the other hook is urged against a block 23 on section 8.
In use the article is connected to the chain by the ring 6. To attach the chain against displacelnent on the tire, I'the link 5 is passed between the Walls 21, spreading the walls apart and usually pressing one of the walls 2l flush with one of the walls 7, which serves as an abutment so that further pressure will move the other Wall away and enable the link to clip into the pocket 18 overlapped by the hooks. To release said link 5, it is merely necessary to press the arms 14 inwardly, as the hooks will then separate and permit ready withdrawal of the link 6.
While I have herein Adescribed a certain specific manner and method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention, so as best to construct a practical device for the purpose intended, as defined in the appended claim.
