This invention relates' to certain improvements in the surface washer disclosed by my Patent No. 1,587,873, dated June 8, 1926.
The said patented washer comprises a water-receiving head, a water-delivering head, and a water-conducting neck, connecting said heads and spacing the same apart, so that portions of an operating hand may be inserted therebetween, the neck being formed to engage iingers of a hand interposed between the heads, the delivering head having a perforated front wall, and a back wall constituting a rest for portions of the hand and formed to permit liexure ot the fingers and thumb across its margin, so that an applicator, such as a sponge, may be confined by the lingers and thumb in Contact with the perforated front wall of the delivering head, to receive water from the lat-ter and permit the application of the saturated applicator to a surface to be washed, while the washer and applicator are controlled by the operating hand.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved three-part construction ot' the washer, each of the parts 'being adapted to be formed from suitable metal' by die casting.
The invention is embodied in the improvement-s hereinafter described and claimed.

My improved surface washer comprises a water-receiving head 12, of cast metal, preferably aluminum, having an end portion 12a formed to be engaged with a fiexible hose supplying water to the washer. Cast integral with the head 12 is a water-conducting neck, composed of an annular body member 13, provided with an internal annular groove WASHER.

provided at one end withan external screwthread 19, engaging the internal thread 17, and at its opposite end with a flange 2O bearing on the seat 16. The bore ot the bushing 18 forms a finger-receiving opening 21, adapted to receive the finger 22 of the operating hand shown by dotted lines in Figure 1, the external form f the body portion13 of the neck being such that it conforms to the natural divergence o1 two adjacent fingers 23, as indicated by Figure 7.
The bore ot' the bushing 18 may be engaged with an expansible mandrel, so that the busl'iing may be turned. by the mandrel and screwed into the internal thread 17, this operation pressing' the flange 20 against the seat 16, so that water-tight joints are formed.
The washer comprises also a delivering head composed of a rigid back member 24, cast integral with the body member 13, and a separately formed perforated flexible front member 25, having a water-tight connection at its margin with the back member 24, and forming therewith a water chamber 26, communicating through a passage 27 with the conduit in the neck.
The said water-tight connection is preferably provided by the construction next described.
I provide the back 24 with a central outwardly projecting boss 28, having a tapped socket 29. I also provide the back with an annular inwardly facing shoulder 30, surrounding and spaced from the boss 28. The front member 25 is a concavo-convex disk,
formed at its margin to bear on the shoul- `der 30, and having a central orifice 31, coinciding with the boss socket 29. The curvature of the front member 25 is such that when it is first applied, its margin being seated on the shoulder 30, the central portion of the front member is slightly separated from the outer end of the boss. The headed clamping screw 32 is then inserted in the orifice 31 and socket 29, and turned until the pressureoits head on `the central portiono-the fron-timember 25 fieries said member to expand its margin and pressthe.
