G. V. MILLER HANGER FOR EAR CLAMPS Filed April 25. 1925 INVENTOR ATTQRNEY Patented Mar. 15, 1927.
UNITED STATES itzaeti PATENT GFFIfiE.
HANGER FOR EAR CLAMPS.
Application filed April 25, 1923.
My invention relates to hangers for ear clamps, and the object of the invention is to provide a hanger which may be associated with the ear clamp and then hung over the upper part of the ear, to carry some of the weight of the clamp and to prevent loss of the ear ornament should the clamp slip from the lobe of the ear.
I attain these objects and other advantages by means of the combination of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which-Figure 1 is a side elevation of an ear clamp to which my invention is attached and hanging over the top of the ear in operative position; Figure 2 is an elevation of the hanger, and showing the eye at the lower end thereof and the hook at the upper end of the same and, Figure 3 is a side elevation of an ear clamp, partly sectioned, and showing the method of using the hanger.
Similar numerals of reference refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings-the numeral 1,
designates aconventional ear clamp for ear ornaments and which consists of a U-shaped yoke 2, having at its outer terminal a clamp member 3, and at its other terminal a thread ed screw holder 4. in which is operatively 30 mounted an adjusting screw 5, provided at its inner end with a clamp member 6, which is arranged to register with the clamp member 3, so as to receive between the clamps,
the lobe of an ear. The clamp member 6,
has a threaded bore adapted for receiving the screw end of the adjusting screw 5. The hanger 7, consists of a flexible wire or cable having at its lower end an eye 8, or any equivalent thereof for the reception of the adjusting screw 5, and at its upper end a hook 9, which is formed substantially to conform to the upper portion of the back of the ear.
The hanger 7, is associated with the ear clamp by removing the clamp member 6, from the inner end of the adjusting screw 5, and then mounting the eye 8, of the hanger Serial No. 634,466.
over the screw and, thereafter, screwing the clamp member 6, on the end of the adjusting screw, thus stationing the eye of the hanger between the screw holder 4, and the clamp member 6. When the clamp is adjusted to the lobe of the ear, the hanger is positioned at the back of the ear and is substantially hidden from view. The wire comprising the hanger is manipulated by the fingers to conform to the contour of the back portion of the ear, the hook of the hanger being also manipulated to conform to the contour of the upper part of the back of the ear. The hanger being properly adjusted it will sustain the ear clamp so as to carry the weight thereof and thus relieve the lobe of the ear from stretching by the gravity of the clamp and, in the event the ear clamp should slip from the lobe of the ear the hanger would prevent the same and the ornament associated therewith from being lost, as is frequently experienced by wearers of unprotected ear clamps. The hanger is preferably made of gold or nonco-rrosive wire or wire cable. It is also understood that the hanger may be loosely or rigidly mounted on the ear clamp witlr out departing from my invention.
Having described my invention what I claim is 1. An earring comprising a lobe engaging loop having lnner and outer arms, a lobe engaging member carried by the outer arm of the loop, a lobe gripping member carried by the inner arm of the loop, and an ear encircling guard loop having a shank connected with the inner arm of the lobe engag ing loop.
2. An earring comprising a lobe engaging loop having inner and outer arms, a lobe engaging membercarried by the outer arm of the loop, an adjustable lobe gripping member carried by the inner arm of the loop, and an ear encircling guard loop having its shank swingingly connected with the inner arm of the lobe engaging loop.
