WILLIAM I. LIGHT, OF. BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
RADIO EXTENSION CONDUCTOR AND REEL.
Application filed August 31, 1925. Serial No. 53,707.
This invention relates to a simple and eificient extension conductor and reel for radio sets so that the loud speaker or head phone can be Connected to a radio set easily and simply at some distance therefrom.
' An object of the invention is to provide a suitable length of the conductor wh1ch can be Wound up in the casing of a reel and when it is desired to be used can permit the extension of the conductor to any 7 desired length and to a point where a loud speaker plug can be connected to a portion of the reel.
The invention is illustrated in the drawing of which Figure 1 is an elevation of the extension device in use in connection with a radio setand a loud speaker;
Figure 2 is a section through the reel;
Figure 3 is a side section through the reel;
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the reel;
Figure 5 is a cross section through the e tension conductor.
he form ofthe invention shown ,in the drawings is a preferred form, although it is understood that modifications in the construction and arrangement of theparts and in the character of the materials used may be adopted without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
In its general aspect the invention comprises a casing having a rotatable hollow hub on which a flat strip of insulatin madesired length is woun in --a manner similar to the manner in'which a surveyor tape is wound up. These insulated strips contain the two electrical conductors suitably embodied therein.
The inner end of the strip is connected to the rotatable hub and the inner ends of the conductors are connected to terminals dis posed within the hollow hub of the reel. The other end of the strip and the conductors are connected to a plug adapted to be connected to the radio set. In this main ner the plug on the end of the strip can be connected to a radio set and the strip unwound from the reel the desired amount and then a plu from a loud speaker inserted into the si e of the hollow hub to automatically make connection with the conductor, by means of the terminals within the hub.
In the preferred form of the invention I show a casing ,10, having a rotatable hub portion 11, adapted to be rotated by a hanconductor 17 is embedded in this strip 16 and its inner end is connected to a spring terminal '18, which is mounted on the plate 13 but insulated therefrom b suitable-insulating washers, such as 19, s own in Figure 2. The insulating strip 16 is of any desired length and the conductors 15 and 17 at the outer end of the strip extend therebeyond and are connected to a plug 20,'which maybe inserted into any standard radio set provided with means to receive a plug.
A plug 21 connected to a cord 22 leadng to a,loud speaker 23 may be inserted into an aperture, such as 24 in the side of the hub 11, and in the usual manner make contact with the terminals 14 and 18. The end of the plug makes direct contact with the terminal 18, and the body of the plug makes contact with the terminal 14 through the intermediary of the metallic plate 13.
It will thus be apparent that this simple device will keep the extension conductor Wound up in a simple and eificient manner at all times when not inuse so that it will not, in the usual manner, become all snarled up. This in itself is a great advantage in addition to the fact a great length of conductor can in this way be employed to better advantage and make it possible to dispose a loud speaker at any suitable point from the radio set without regard to its reasonable distance from the set.
What I claim is-:-
1. A radio extension conductor and reel, comprising a casing, a revoluble hollow hub in the casing and provided with terminals therein, said hub havinga central opening, a strip having conductors embedded therein, the strip having one end secured to the hub and its conductors to the terminals, the other end of the strip and its conductors being secured to a plu adapted to be connected to a radio set, an a cord adapted to have one end secured to a loud speaker and provided at its other end with a plug adapted to be mamas inserted in the openin of the hub and make secured to the terminals, the other end of contact with the terminals. the strip and its conductors being secured 2. A radio extension conductor and reel, to a plug adapted to'be connected with a 15 comprising a casing, a revoluble hollow hub radio set, and a cord for connection with a in the casing, the hub having a central openloud speaker provided with a plug adapted ing, in one side and provided on the inner to be inserted through the registering openface of said side with a metal plate having ings of the hub and metallic plate to make an opening'registering with the opening of direct contact with the spring terminal and 2 the hub, a terminal on said plate, a spring contact with the other terminal through said terminal also on the plate, a strip having metallic plate. conductors embedded therein and having one end secured to the hub and its conductors LLIAM I.
