My invention relates particularly to "motion picture film reels although not limited to thls use alone. 1 i
The main feature of the invent on relates to the provision of a: reel adapted for reverse mounting upon certain types of spin dles constructed for cooperation with certain types of reels to prevent reverse mounting of these reels on said spindles, thus melting it unnecessary to replace or change said spindles on machineswhere it is-deslrexl to use a reel which may be reversely mounted.
With this feature in view my invention consists in certain features of novelty in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts by which the said feature andc'ertain other features hereinafter appearing are efiected, all as fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing and more partihularly pointed out in'the claims.

In the said drawin 1 designates a sup port arm, and moan of this arm is a spindle 2, the reel mount portion of which extends outwardly from one end of the hub. This extending portion oi the spindle is provided with a longitudinally varied reel mount surfacepomprising a round outer portion 3 and a square or polygonal inner portion 4 having its faces tan ential to the round portion and'according y extending laterally beyondthe round portion and terminating in an outwardly iacing shoulder 5.

In the mounting of the reel on the spindle the spindle aperture 9 of one of theside plates of .the reel engages on the inner portion 4 of the spindle while the spindle aperture 9 of the other side plate engages on the outeriportion 3 of the spindle as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. By reason ofthe fact that both apertures 9 will fit over the inner portion a of the spindle, 7c the reel may be reversely mounted thereon.
The apertures9 of the side plates 6 and 7 of the reel are preferably angularly offset, as
.shown in Fi 4, so that there are provided spindle for engagement with one of the side plates 6 and 7 depending on the position of the reel on the spindle, to limit outward 35 movement of the reel on the spindle, andis releasable to permit mounting'of the reel on and removalof the reel from the spindle.
While I have herein shown and particularly described the preferred embodiment of 9 my invention I do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction shown as changes may readily be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, but having thus described my invention 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat-v ent the following:
1. A motion picture film reel orthe like provided with a spindle opening comprismg non-circular portions angularly, ofiset whereby to form intermediate shoulders facing longitudinally of'said opening in opposite directions, each of said portions being adapted to engage on an inner non-circular portion of a spindle for centering the reel m5 and to engage on an outer portion of the spindle, beyond which said inner portion of the spindle extends laterally, for centering the reel.

3. A motion picture film reel or the like including two axially spaced side plates pro? vided with non-circular spindle apertures angularly ofiset, each of said apertures being adapted to engage on an inner non-circular portion of a spindle for driving and centering the reel and to engage on an outer portion of the spindle, beyond which said inner portion of the spindle extends laterally, for centering the'reel.
4. A motion picture film reel or the like including two axially spaced side plates provided with identical polygonal spindle apertures angularly offset and forming intermediate shoulders facing longitudinally of the spindle opening, formed by said aperture, in opposite directions.
5. A motion picture film reel or the like provided with a spindle opening comprising non-circular portions each adapted to engage on an inner non-circular portion of p a spindle for driving and centering the reel and to engage on an outer portion of the spindle, beyond which said inner portion of the spindle extends laterally, for centering the reel.
6. A motion picture film reel or the like rovided with a non-circular spindle openmg adapted to engage on an inner similar non-circular portion of a spindle for driving and centering the reel and to engage on an outer round portion f the spindle, beyond which said-inner portion of the spindle extends laterally for centering the reel.
7. A motion picture film reel or the like including two axially spaced side plates provided with polygonal spindle apertures, the sides of said apertures being tangent to circles of the same diameter and each aperture being adapted to engage on an inner pol gonal portion of a spindle for driving and centering the reel and to engage on an outer round portion of the spindle, with respect to which round ortion the sides of the polygonal portion 0 the spindle are tangential for centering the reel.
