HAIR CLASP.
Application filed September .7, 19.26. Serial/No. 133,952.
rlhis invention relates to improvements Y in hair fasteners, particularly to a clasp adapted to hold the hair in desired shape or arrangement, and 1t 1s the principal object of my invention to provide a hair clasp Vwhich by a simple manipulation will readily engage the hair and be kept in adjusted position therein to keep it neatly arranged in any desired manner.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hair clasp of simple and therefore inexpensive construction, yet durable and efficient and positive in its operation.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a hair clip orv clasp adapted to be provided With suitable ornaments such as rhinestones or the like and to be made of any suitable material such as aluminum, tortoise or the like, and of a suitable desired size and form. f
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more specifically defined in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 illustrates thek application of my novel and improved hair clasp to the head of a person.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a hair clasp constructed according to my invention.
Fig. V3 is an enlarged rear viei showing a fragmentV of the olasp.-
Fig. fis a section on line fit-lf of Figure 3.
Fig. 5 is a cross-section through the clasp on line 5--5 of Figure 3.
The clasp as illustrated in the drawing, consists of a body of aluminum, tortoise or any other suitablematerial curved to suitv the shape of a head, and having an upper bead 11 and lower teeth 12 provided in any number and having any desired convenientv shape of metal or any other suitable material. Below the upper bead on the front face of the clasp a sliding plate 13 curved to snugly i'it the Vcurvature of the body 10 is arranged which is provided With a longitudinal slot 14 in which a peg or Vpin -15 projecting from thevfront Wall of the body travels andk which is provided with a suitable head engaging the outer face of the plate 13 to hold and guide the same during itsdisplacement over the body.
An operating stndl is made integrally with the plate 13 near one end thereof, and a similar stud 17 projects from the body 10 through the slot 14 near the other end of the body for limiting the movement of the plate.
At the rear of the body a guide or casing 1S is provided in Which a spring 19 or the like is arranged secured at its ends to suitable clips 20 of the body, or, as shown at one end to one of the end clips 20 of the body and its opposite end to a small plunger 21 traveling Within the guide 18.
The operationof my device Will be entirely Vclear, from the above description, if
it is'desired to arrange the hair in a certain manner and to hold the same in this arrangement, the comb teeth are engaged into the hair and the sliding plate is displaced laterally by the proper manipulation of knob 16 engaged by the index finger for instance,
While the thumb engages the stud 17, if now the spring expanded by this manipulation contracts upon the release of the knob and stud, and the clasp is pressed firmly' against the head, it Will engage the hair and be securely held therein to hold the hair as arranged. It will be understood that the casing or guide 18 is open at the rear to let the spring engage the hair strands.
It is to be understood that while I haveY shown as an example the preferred form of my device, the same may be executed in practice in many other Ways, and that the general arrangement of the device and 1|die construction of the minor details thereof may be changed Within the scope of the appended claim lwithout departure from the spirit and gist of my invention, so for instance the stud 16, and the stud 17 may be provided at their outer ends with rhinestones orother precious stones or ornaments, Y
vhaving a longitudinal slot, means for holding and guiding said plate during its sliding movements relatively to said body, means for limiting the movements of said plate,
means for opel-:ding Suid plate to execute :1` sliding n'lot'ion, :i guide :it the rear of Said body, n spring in said guide, Ineens for :ittuehing the ends of the sprinfv to sadbody for allowing an expansion o? the same by the proper manipulation of the plate operating means, and a contraction upon the release of the saine to engage `the hair for holding' lille clamp when pressed inguinal? the llezld in engagement `with the liziir and the 10 latter in desired zurengenient.
Signed :it New York in the county of Bronx and State of New York this 4th day of September A. D. 1926.
