Main frame 1 is shown as having therefrom strut 2 for table 3, as a rest, for guide or funnel 4; having-haendleh which may be grasped in shifting such funnel at from the table 3 into position over mold pocket 6 formed by end finishing plates 7 as backed by opposing mold walls 8. Between these plates 7 of the opposing'mold walls 8, ex- 30 tend plates 9 backed by connecting mold Walls 10. The end mold walls 8 teri'nii'iate in ledges or lugs 11 which may be abut'ted by shims 12 of selected sizes or extent for thereby adjusting the spacing between the inner connecting plates '9 and thus determine the dimension for the casting or block. These block walls are further assembled by bolts 13, while bolts l-il anchor the end mold walls '8 with the main frame 1. Additional bolts 15 in the frame 1 carry cross portions 16 below the mold side walls 7, 9. These cross portions 16 have'bolts 17 therein, the height of which may be adjusted by washers 18, as shims, in providing the desired position for a transverse side of pallet 19 having openings 20 through which core elements 21 may extend in their mounting on the cross portions 16.
The loose or semi-plastic material, as moistened cement and sand, is dumped in the funnel 4; and shaken down or tamped to fill the region above the pallet 19 in this mold. As such filling operation is completed, the

as extending toward the forward portion of the machine, act as a trowel in smoothing off thetop -of the casting or form. v
The next operation is the removal of such formed plastic material from this open top mold. This operation is one which should occur without jar, as the freshly formed "material is quite fragile before it is allowed to set. Furthermore, the tamping or packing of this material into the mold to give it close grain at the side portions of the mold, as well as about the core to have uniform strength throughout, means that there is considerable adherence between the plates 9, the core 21, and the material-of the casting 7'0 orblock. It is true these faces may be coated with a substance to detract from or reduce such adherence. Accordingly, to start this block upward out of the mold, there is conside'rable: resistance; It is desirable that, in overcoming such resistance, the release of the block not result in "a quick ejection thereof to throw it out and shatter such block. To this end, in the disclosure herein, there is provided a considerable power multiplication for overcoming the. inertia and adherence at starting with a distribution of the power required for maintaining the travel in such a way that the velocity of upward lift of the block in ejection from the m'old may occur quite rapidly, but at a nonuniform rate, the speed being a maximum in the intermediate position with a'rather quick but slight-slow down at the upper terminus of the lift,'there to come into locked position so that there may not be a jar in loosening the block from the mold. To this end, rock arm or operating lever 23 is mounted on'rock shaft 24; mounted in bearings 25 carried by the frame 1. This shaft 24 is parallel to the pallet 19 and slightly forward from the medial vertical plane through such pallet or the mold. This shaft 24: has mounted thereon eccentric toothed member having short radius portion 26, as the starting region with extension therefrom to longer radius toothed portion 27. This short radius portion 26 is in mesh with long radius toothed portion 28 continuous to short radius toothed portion 29 of companion eccentric gear segment fixedly mounted on rocksha'ft 30 in bearings 31 parallel with the shaft 2st and herein slightly below such shaft 24. This shaft 30, near each end thereof, has fixed therewith depending crank arms 32 from which upward- 1y extend bent links 3-3 to crcssheads having fixed therewith guide sleeves about guide rods 36 partially housed by ribs 37 111 the ends of the frame or base 1. In practice, these rods 40 should be just clear of the pallet '19 so that in the tamping operations, the load of such tamping may be directly taken by the bolts 17 and not be transmitted to this ejector device. As the dampened cement and sand has been dumped into place to till the mold and there has been trowelling of the top thereof by shoving the funnel t with its extension 22 from position over the mold, the handle 23 may be grasped by the operator and pulled through an arc. herein shown as up proximately This gives a mechanical advantage of speed reduction shown as about two to one between the rock shaft 24 and the rock shaft 230 at the short radius toothed portion 26 coacting with the long -adius toothed portion 28. At this point, the crank 232 is in its lower position and, accordingly, its lift action through the links 33 and the crossheads 34; is for slow speed rise. This gives not only the speed reduction of the transmission pair of eccentric segments, but also the speed reduction in starting from the are throw position of the crank 32 at the region of minimum lift component. As the arm 23 is brought forward, there is a uniform variation in the transmission action of the eccentric toothed segments working to increase the lineal travel rate for the crossheads 3% simultaneously with the increase in the vertical lift component of the links 33. This action as to both of these speed reduction devices or speed varying means in the transmission train, herein shown in series, work together for a very rapid building up of the lineal travel rate of the crossheads 3 f, working as a unit. This building up of the devices as for supplementing each other for a ratio of approximatelv one to one speed between the rock shafts 24:, 30, at which position the cranks 32 are in the region of maxi.- mum lineal upward travel rate, and accordingly approximately horizontal. From such point, the links 33, tend to reduce the lineal travel rate, while the lineal travel function of the eccentric toothed members still tends to increase favorably to building up the rock travel rate of the shaft 30 relatively to the rock travel rate of the shaft 2f. Resultantly, this is a rocking of the shaft 30 through greater are than the rocking of the driving shaft 2 1'. In this swing beyond the horizontal position for the cranks 32, and upward therefrom, there is a reduction in the lift lineal travel rate of the crossheads 34-, so that as the toothed member .28, 29, reaches its fully thrown position to strike adjustable abutment 43, the rods 4-0 have ascemled such distance as to lift the pallet 19 at least [lush with the top of the mold and in about the plane of the table 3, so that the pallet 15) may be removed to take with it the casting and another pallet dropped into position in the mold say on the vertical rods 40 and the lever 23 rocked rearwardly to lower such pallet to rest upon the bolts 17, and the structure is in position for a repetition of this cycle of operations in the production of cast or molded articles. A mold having sides providing forming surfaces for the lateral face of an article, a transverse side, said mold having an openmg opposing said transverse side, and an actuator for the transverse side including a thrusting member for said side, a rock arm, and a pair of variable angular velocity transmiss1on devices therebetween in series, one comprising a pair of eccentric toothed members.
A mold having sides providing forming surfaces for the lateral face of an article, a transverse side, said mold having an opening opposing said transverse side, and an actuator for the transverse side including a thrusting member for said side, a rock arm, an eccentric toothed drive member mounted thereon, a follower eccentric toothed member, a shaft therefor having its axis fixed later ally of said rock arm axis, a crank for said shaft, and a connection to said thrust member movable from one side of said shaft axis to the other side of said shaft axis.
5. A mold having sides providing forming surfaces for the lateral face of an article, a 5 transverse side, said mold having an opening opposing said transverse side, and an actuator for the transverse side including a thrusting member for said side, a rock arm, an ec centric toothed drive member mounted thereshaft therefor having its axis fixed laterally of said rock arm axis, a crank for said shaft, and a link connection to said thrust member movable from one side of said shaft axis to the other side of said shaft axis.
