The present invention relates to an m` provement l in looms. f
` Theobject of the invention is to reorganlzeand improve the construction of'looms,
' more' particularly with yrespect `to the knockoii' lever and the ,connections between it and the belt shipper; VTo the above` endsthe present .invention consistsin the improved loom hereinafter describedfand particularly delined in the claims. Y
1n the accompanying drawings illustrating` the preferred form of the invention, Fig. l'is an end' elevation Lof a partof a loom showing` the present construction adapted for use inconnection with a beltapproaching; the loom from the floor; Fig. 2 is a similar endelevation of a part of a. loom showing` thefconstruction adapted for use with a belt approaching theloom from overhead shafting; Fig'. 3 ista plan view of` the lconstruction shown in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a front elevation ofthe knock-olf lever and the crank bracket applied thereto, drawn on an enlarged scale. l
The illustrated embodiment of the invention is described as follows: The end frame 10 of the loom is of the usual construction. The lay shaft 11 is mounted in bearings on the frames of the loom, and is provided in addition with an out-board bearing' 12 sup- Y ported on the bearing bracket 13. The shaft carries the tight pulley 14 and the idler 15. The bracket 13 is provided with an eXtension 16, to which is bolted the belt shipper support 17. The belt shipper 18 is mounted in bearings in the support 17, and on its forward end it is provided with a clamp V19, which engages a slot 2O in the shipper casting 21,' secured to the knock-off lever 22 b v means of the bolt 23. When the knockof lever is moved from the position shown in Fig. `3 to the position 24 indicated in dott-ed lines in said figure, the shipper .is
When an overhead drive is used, an extension member'32 is attached tothe arm 25, and to the end of the extension member 32 is attached the fork 27. Y 'y lt will Vbe notedthat the position ofthe `fork whenV used inV connectionwvith the eX- tension member 32 onan overhead drive arrangement is located above the axis of the 'shipper 18, while when'the fork is used on a fioor drive it islocated below the axis. Thisisconveniently secured by providing,` the shipper casting 21- withv af second slot 33, which is adapted to receive the crank 19 of the shipperk 18 when the floor drive arrangement is'used. The arm 25 is'attached to the shipper 18 in' oneposition when one drive is used, fand in another position'when the vother drive is'us'ed. lIt willthus bevseen -that the shipper oasting,"the'` shipper, the
arm 25, and the belt fork 27,1are identicalV for bothoverhead andlioor drives, and that allfthat is necessary to be doneinv setting up the shipper for use on an overhead drive isy to provide the additional extension member 32,.andY to arrangethe crank of the shipper so that. it engages the upper slot in the` vshipper' casting. rWhen setting up for the fioor drive, Vthe fork will be attached directly toy the arm 25, and the crank of the shipper will b e received in the lower slot 33 of the shipper casting on the knock-off lever. This provides a convenient arrangement for the manufacture'of loomsadapted either for floor or overhead drive, as all parts for the two constructions are identical except that with the overhead drive an additional eX- tension member is used.
The end of the extension member attached to the shipper arm 25 is the same in shape as the end of the belt fork, so that the eX- tension member may be substituted for the belt fork for lattachment to the shipper arm.
The other end of the extension member is the same in form as ,the end of the shipper arm,
so that it is adaptd to support the fork 27 in the same manner and by the same mode of 'attachment as the shipper arm is adapted to support it. f
When the extension member is used, it may be considered either as an extension of the shipper arm, or as an extension of the belt fork, or as an additional "independent member. The claims will beread and understood in view of this statement.
Having this described the invention, what is claimed is:
l. A loom having, in Combination, a frame, a knockfof lever mounted on the frame, a belt shipper, a belt fork, and-an arm mounted on the belt shipper, the belt fork being adapted to'beV secured directlyl to the arm for floor drive arrangement, or to an extension member interposed between the fork and the arm 'for overhead drive arrangment, said shipper being providedY ,wih'a crank, and the 'knock-'olf lever being provided withtwo slots, the one vadaptedfto receive vthe crank when the shipper is arranged foroverhead"drive, and the other being :adapted to yreceive Ithe crank when the. shipper is arranged for floor drive.
2. A loom having, in combination, a trame, a-,knook-.o 'lever mounted on the frame, and a ybelt Yshipper'provided with a crank, the -knocksoi lever beingV provided with two slots VIfor engagement with the crank of the belt shipperiineither one of two positions', one. being 'for use with the 'shipper A'arranged for vfloor drive, 'and 'the other heing :for use lwith the shipper arrangedffor overhead drive.
8. A :loom having, fin Combination, a frame, aaknookeoff -leverprovided with two slots, a belt shipper having 1a crank adapted toengage-,thefone or thefotherof the two slots of ythe'-ki'iook-oft" lever,'an arm mounted on the belt fshi-pper, an extension vmember arm Vwhen the loom `is adapted for" floor drive, said extensionmember and belt-'fork both being provided with similar Yends adapted for similar support on the belt shipper arm.
4. A loom' having, in combination a frame, a knock-oli lever mounted 'on (the frame, a belt shipper provided' with-'a'erank adapted tok engage the knock-ofi lever'in one operaive position whenl the loom is arranged for overhead drive, and to engage theknoekoff lever in another'operative position when the loom yis arranged for floorv drive, said shipper being provided rwithan arm adapted to carry-a belt torl; of two different kinds, the one' extended to engage the belt yabove the loom pulley, and the other to engage the belt belowI the loom pulley.
V5. A 'loom having, :in combination,y a trame, a :knoek-oli lever mounted on the frame and provided with a Crank-opening, a belt shipper Comprising a rock Shaft having a crank on its :front end and abelt fork on the rear end, the crank being received in the crank-opening ot'thegknool-oif lever and operated thereby to rock the .shipper and fork to move the belt fromtight to loose and loose to tight plillleyel A Y JONAS NORTHROP.
