Abstract
253,035. Hollingworth, E.9 (Crompton & Knowles Loom Works). Feb. 13, 1926. Addition to 251,877. Driving, reversing, starting, and stopping arrangements. -In carpet-loom driving mechanism as described in the parent Specification, means are provided to warn the operator, when in reverse, as to the proper time for stopping the loom. The lever 38 which, when in reversing position, masks the shipper-lever notch in the slotted guide-plate 28, is mounted on a shaft 37. A two-armed lever 46, 47 on the other end of the shaft 37 is rotatably supported by the spindle 50 of the motor-switch 43 and actuates the switch-lever 44, Fig. 2, through a lost-motion connection when the lever 38 is shifted. The shipper-lever 24, when shifted to the right, Fig. 1, against a spring 26, acts through connections 23, 21 to close a friction-clutch 17, 18, so that the shaft 16 is driven from the motor 13. The shaft 16 drives a lay-operating shaft 32, which in turn drives a picking-shaft 35 through suitable gearing; e.g. a three-to-one gearing for a threeshot loom. To an arm of the lever 38 is pivoted a rod 42 having a forked cam-end 52 embracing a shaft 54 between an arm 55 thereon and a bearing 53. The shaft 54 is slidably and rotatably mounted in the bearings 53 and is urged to the right, Fig. 2, by a spring 57. As shown in Fig. 1, the mechanism is in forward running position and the shaft 54 is held to the left, Fig. 2, by the upper portion of the cam 52, so that an arm 58 on the shaft is out of the path of pins 59 on the gear-wheel 34 on the shaft 35. When the loom is stopped and the lever 38 is thrown over, the arm 47 coacts with the pin 45 on the switch-lever 44 to reverse the motor; the lost-motion connection acts to compensate for inaccuracy in the switch-setting. At the same time, the rod 42 is raised, so that the cam 52 allows the shaft 54 to shift the arm 58 into the path of the pins 59. When the shipper-lever 24 is held in the dotted starting-position shown, Fig. 1, the pins 59 shift the arm 58 once for each reciprocation of the lay, and, in doing so, oscillate the arm 55 on the shaft 54 to move the shipper-lever towards stopping position; if the warning is not heeded, the loom will be positively stopped. A number of reverse motions may be given to the loom with a single setting of the reverse lever.
