E GERHARD ET AL PRODUCER wTTH COOLING' WATER JACKET.
Filed July 9, 1924 .FigA .l F153 Y 'a cooling Water jacket.
Patented ses. 15,1927.
rnnniNAivD GERHARD, or xoivresenne, Ann nnivs'r sci-inivracnnn, or FRANKFORT Y ON-THE-IVIAIN, GERIVIANY.
PRODITER WITH kCOOLING- WTER JACKET.
Application led July 9, 1924, Serial No. 725,068, and in Germany September 15V, 1921.
This invention relates to a producer With In producers the cooling Waterrjacketis exposed to strong 'Wear as it is submitted from the inside to the action of the air-containing cooling Water and from the outside to the erosive actions of coke and slag dust. Consequently leakages occur frequently Which give cause for ivearisoniedisturbances of service. As the repairing of a defective cooling Water jacket is` diflicult and requires much time owing to the commonly used form of construction of sucli cooling Water jackets the entire cooling Water jacket has yto'be exchanged after a short time'of service, Which is rather expensive and the more so as the producer has to be stopped for a long time.
According yto this invention the' abovementionedY inconveniences are avoided vby constructing the cooling jacket of interchangeable, exchangeable Water cooled boxes independent of one another, ysaid boxes being of substantially trapezoidal cross section and arranged to form a complete cooling jacket. 'lhe several boxes are constructed so that they are shut off from one another; they have each a separate inlet and outlet for the cooling vvaterconnected vviththe main pipes so'that they can be easilyl disconnected from the same. The cooling jacket segments can for instance consist of cast bodies With serpentine cooling channels. The exchangeability can be facilitated by the use of wedge pieces inserted from the inside and serving.V
for securely Vl'iolding the boxes in position. These Wedge pieces are pressed against the adjacent elements of the cooling jacketby means of screw bolts accessible from the, outside. Y y y v If for each segment a separate outflow for the' coolingjvater is provided, Which freely terminates into'an open discharge conduit, it is possiblev todetermineat every moment whether the circulation of the cooling Water Y is normal, so that disturbances in the supplyl of cooling water or leakage from individual segments can be found out soon-v ,enough to prevent serious damages.
' 'Several embodiments of the invention.. are
shown byvvay of example in the accomp'anying drawing, in Which F ig. 1 shows one A,form of construction in vertical longitudinal section, the section being taken on the line l-lofFig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal cross section on the line 11-11 of Fig. 1.
' Figs. 3 and t are vertical'and horizontal J sections respectively representing a second form ofl construction, the sections being taken on the lines indicated.
` AAccording to Figs. l and v2, the producer Y' comprises a permanent outer Wall consisting of an outer envelope c and an inner layer of boxes duit y In the second form `of construction vsho'vvn f in Figs. 3 and 4, respectively, rthe cooling jacket is 'composed of the castelements 'n having each a serpentine cooling channel o.
The elements n are wedged apart and pressed Vboxes 7c from' an annular pipe d `With Which Y ythe Water boxes are connected` byVV tubular vconnecting pieces g of which each one has a valve 7. The Water flows out from the Water Y ,7c throughp'ipes h'into lan open conagainst the permanent outer Wall of the producer by means of Wedge'pieces lZ and screvv bolts m. Water is admitted from, annular pipe d through valves f andpipes yg to the .lower ends vof channels o through which it lpasses upwardly and out through pipes h finto open conduit z'. l
In both-forms of construction the cooling elements are of'such breadth that they Vcanv be easily inserted through a sight hole (not shown) inthe top of thefurnace. f
We claimz- In a furnace having a permanentv outer 9'5 y Y' Wall, a cooling Water jacket forming the in# ner lining of `the furnace comprising independent Y segments, means forVV conducting Water through said segments', the adjacent edges of the segments dvergng toward the interior of the furnace, Wedge shaped members interposed between said dvergng edges, and means for drawing said Wedge VShaped members reward said permanent outer Wall t0 clamp said segments to said Wall. Y m The foregoing` specification signed at' Frankfort-on-Man, Germany, this 12th day of June, 1924.
