Description

I 1,617,822 Feb- 15, P. J. OLEARY SLEEPING PILLOW Filed March 11. 1926 Inventor Attorney Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
PATRICK J. OLEARY, F AKRON, OHIO.
SLEEPING PILLOW.
Application filed March 11, 1926. Serial No. 93,917.
which assist in curing a patient of asthma,
catarrh, croup, colds, and other ailments.
The construction of this pillow is further of such a nature as to allow the material carrying package to be readily removed from or inserted within the pillow. thus permitting various medicinal preparations to e inserted therein for assisting in the cure of certain ailments.
Other objects and purposes will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same comprising the novel form, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing, and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a. side elevation of my improved pillow, the medicament carrying rece tacle being partly removed therefrom.
igure 2 is a detail vertical section taken substantially upon the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a perspective of the medicament carrying receptacle which is\ in the forlm of an elongated bag of porous mater1a Figure 4 is a sectional view of the forward end of the medicament carying rece tacle.
ow having particular reference to the drawing wherein there is disclosed but a single embodiment of the presentinvention, such embodiment constitutes the provision of a substantially rectangular shaped pillow 5 that is of general oval shape in cross section as shown in Figure 2. This pillow comprises a case 6 of suitable porous material within which is the filler or padding 7. Arranged horizontally in the center of the case 6 are strips of fabric 88 that are of relatively greater width than the Width of the pillow, said strips being interconnected by rows of stitching 9 at a plurality of points at opposite sides of the center thereof, the edges of the strip being turned over as clearly shown in Figure'2 in order that the same may be stitched to the bottom and top sides of the case 6 respectively. The
edges of these strips are directly adjacent each other in order that the material between the interconnectmg rows of stitches may be forced away from each other to provide a longitudinal pocket 10 throughout the length of the pillow as clearly shown in Figure 1. It is necessarythat at least one end of the casing 6 of the pillow be provided with an opening in registration with the longitudinal pocket so as to provide an entrance therefor.
Adapted to be removably disposed within the longitudinal pocket 10 is a medicament carrying receptacle 11*in theform of a relatively elongated bag ofporous material within which is to be disposed a pad 11' which is saturated with pine oil, eucalyptus oil, or other vapor producing medicinal preparation. The forward end of the bag is open for permitting the padto be inserted therein. A flap 12 is provided at said forward end that is adapted to be folded around the open end thereof and secured to the under side of the ba by snap fasteners 13, certain members of which are carried by the flap while other members thereof'are carried by the bag. Furthermore, the top side of the bag 11 adjacent the open end is rovided with members of snap fasteners designated 14 for engagement with the complementary members of the fasteners designated 15, in Figure 1 in order that the bag may be secured in the pocket.
It will thus be seen that one suffering from a particular ailment, in resting upon this pillow will inhale the vapors produced by the material within the bag 11 which will pillow 5, nor of the particular shape and construction of the invention; departures'ma he had therefrom without effecting the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a pillow of the character described, a casing having a paddin material therein, a wall extending longitudmally through the pillow and being so constructed as to provide a longitudinal pocket within the pillow which opens at one end thereof and a medicament carrying bag adapted to be removably aranged within said pocket, and means within the pocket and upon the bag cooperating to secure the bag within said pocket.
2. In a sleeping pillow of the character described, a casing having a padding therein, a strip of fabric extending longitudinally through the center of the pillow and being so constructed as to provide a pocket throughout the length thereof,a medicament carrying bag adapted to be relnovably disposed within said pocket, and cooperating means within the pocket and upon the bag whereby said bag may be secured within the pocket.
3. In a sleeping pillow a casing, strips of fabric extending longitudinally through the center of the casing, the strips being of greater width than the width of the casing, the longitudinal edge portions of the strips being disposed laterally in opposite directions and stitched to the top and bottom respectively of the casing, said strips being stitched together in such manner as to form a central pocket extending for the full length of the casing, said strips forming a central partition and dividing the easing into two separate compartments, a filler for each compartment, one end of the pocket being open, amedicament carrying bag adapted to be removably disposed within said pocket, and cooperating means between the open end of the pocket and the adjacent end of the medicament carrying bag for detachably securing said bag within the pocket.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
PATRICK .J. OLEARY.
