Application filed July 13, 1925. Serial No. 43,308.
This invention relates to boat seats.
Objects of this invention are to provide a detachable boat seat which is so constructed that it may be freely revolved with re terence to its attaching portion, whichis adjustable to vary thc angle at which the back is set,r
and which may be'most readily clamped"to a conventional boat seat or other support.
.Further objects are to provide a portable seat particularly adapted Ior use on boats, which may be Jfolded into avery compact formation, and which may be quickly adjusted for use. r
An embodiment ot thc invention is shown in tbe accompanying drawings, in whichz- Figure l is a vertical sectional view through the device.
Figure 2 an elevation of the seatjfronl 4the front.
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that a supporting base l is provided with a vplurality `di underhanging arms 2 provided with clamping screws 3 whereby the device may be most easily attached toa boat seat or other type of support.
A main seat 4 is mounted above the base l andthe base and the mainseat are provided with racewaysb for the reception of the balls 6, thus providing a ball bearing between the seat and the base of relatively w i le extent.
A king bolt 7 is passed through the webs of the raceways 5 and retains the parts in position. The base and the seat may be made of sheet material. it' desired and preferably the. seat is provided with upwardly turned lugs 8 which pivotally receive the bracing strapst), such straps being provided with a plurality ot' notches 1t) in their outer ends. The main seat 4 is uj-rturned, as indicated at ll, and has pivot ally joined thereto a back l2 preferably oi' sheet metal.
lt is to be noted that when the seat is used the straps t) project through slots formed in tbe-ears 13 of the back i12 and thus retain the-back in adjusted position bracing such back from both sides. It will be noted particularly 'from the dotted line showing in Figure l that the dedownwardly and, thereafter, swinging the back` 12 down over the mel'nbers 9. .This
construction, therefore, permits the ready storing olfthe seat in a small space when not in use.
lt will be and collapsible boat seat has been provided which is of very simple construction, which is sturdy and which may be very cheaply man i 1 ifactu red j j Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, it is'to be understood that. the invention may be variously embodied and is, therefore, to be limited only as claimed.
,l claim:
1. 1n a portable seatconstruction, the combination ot' a base, means for temporarily attaching the base to a support, a main seat positioned above said base, a relatively eX-' tens-ive. ball bearing positioned betwee said scat and base, a back pivoted to sait seat, and /notched bracing members pivotally carried by said 'seat-"andidetachably engaging lslots l'ornied in saill back.
2. Artlvoluble and collapsible boat seat comprising a base ai'lapted to rest upon a portion of the boat, said base having underhung arms provided with clamping screws, a seat positioned above said bare, a pair of ball bearing',raeewaysv carried respectively by said se.at.ar\d said base and having central webs` balls positioned within said raceways, a king bolt passing through said Webs, said seat ha ving uj'nvardly turned side lugs adjacent the roar .of the seat, braces pivotally joined to said lugs and having a plurality ot' notches in their outer portions, and a back pivotally joined to said seat and having slots l'or theyreception of said braces, said base, seat and back being 'formed of sheet Inetal.
