SHINE STAND.

This invention relates to shining stands particularly adapted for use in shining parlors or the like where it is desired to give the best of service to customers by making the equipment as safe and as neat as pos' sible.

One of the primary objects of the present invention is the contemplation of a shining stand which includes the feature of a foot rest which may be dropped or closed to a position entirely out of the way when the customer takes or leaves the seat to have his shoes or boots shined.

Another object of the instant invention is to provide a shine stand having a clear unobstructed step and platform when the foot rests thereof are in the closed position and when the auxiliary step thereof is dropped to the open position.

Still another object of my invention is the provision of new and novel means for operating the foot rests thereof to the open and closed position, which operating means may be housed beneath the platform and operated from in front of the same with ease.

Many minor objects of the invention will appear during the course of the detailed specification referring to the accompanying drawing in which:

Similar reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views, and the numeral 7 designates a platform, made of any suitable material and having the top thereof stepped to provide a higher and a lower portion as shown in Fig. 2. A seat in the form of a bench or chair 8 is mounted on the higher portion of the platform 7, and the central part of the raised portion should be cut back at the front to provide a recess 9 as shown in Fig. 0.

The support part 10 of foot rests 12 is a part of the floor of the lower front portion of the platform 7, and is pivoted near the forward end by pins 13 or the like which permit the foot rests 12 to be swung to the open or closed position. \Vhen in the closed position, foot rests 12, of which there are two, are disposed parallel to and very close to the vertical wall connecting the high and low portion of platform 7. These foot rests 12 are at the free end of the support part 10, which is bifurcated and extends on each side of a projecting part 14, which is a part of the floor or platform 7.

When foot rests 12 are in the closed or inoperative position, the customer is permitted to mount the platform 7 and seat 8 through the use of an auxiliary step 15, pivoted to the front wall of platform 7 as at 16, and supported at its outermost end by a leg plate 17, which is hinged to step 15 in a manner shown at 18 to permit step 15 and leg plate 17 to lie flatly together when raised to enter opening 19 formed in the front wall of the platform. Stops 2O preclude the auxiliary step from falling too far back when in the closed position, and hold the same in the same plane as the front wall of the platform when not in use.

After a customer has ascended to the seat 8, the operator closes auxiliary step 15 and proceeds to draw foot rests 10 to the verti cal position, shown in dotted lines of Figs. 3 and 4 where the same may be conveniently engaged by the customers feet.

Novel and simple operating means has been provided to open and close the foot rests from the operators position in front of the platform.

One form of embodiment of the mechanism is here shown to be a. pair of flexible cables 21 and 22 which, when pulled, open and close, respectively, the footrests. Each cable 21 and 22 extends through suitable openings in the front wall of the platform 7 and around sheave wheels 23, mounted on a transverse shaft 24 supported in any suitable manner beneath the platform.
