i a lic tion filed April 20, 19 25.; -stamina. 24,568.
T his invention relatesto improvements in blood testing devices. f 5
The main object of this invention is to providea blood testingdevicewhich greatly facilitates the testing or estimating of percentage of hemoglobin in the blood.
A further object is to' provide a deviceof this character which is compact and may be carried as part of a physicians equipment and may be repeatedly used, the gauging indicia being fully protected.
Objects relating to details andeconomies of construction and operation will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. I is a front view of my improved blood. testing device, with a specimen indicated in operative position therein by dotted lines. i
Fig. II is a sectional view on a line corresponding to line 22 of Figs. III and IV. 30
Fig. III is an edge view J I Fig. IV is a sectional view on a line corresponding to line 4-4 of Figs. I and II.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectionalv viewsare taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
The embodiment of my invention illustrated comprises a casing made up of a bottom plate 1 having a peripheral upstanding flange 2 thereon. The top plate 3 has a peripheral flange 4 meeting edge to edge with the flange 2. These casingmembers are secured together by the screws 5.
Within the casing I mount an indicia disc 6 havinga series of colored gauging segments 7 of varying shades and the segments or sections having numerals associated therewith indicating percentages. The disc is mounted on the rivet 8 which also serves as a gaugingmeans for the casing members.
The driving disc 9 has a rim 10 of rubber disposed in engagement with the periphery of the indicia disc so that the indicia disc is driven thereby. This driving disc projects' from th'e casing atone edge thereof for convenience in manipulation. s
The casing has a slight opening 11 .in th face thereof-disposed so that .the indicia seg-. ments may be successively brought into register therewith. 1 Y
The casing has a peripheral slot-like opening 12 in which a strip of paper 13 may be'introduced so that a specimen of blood to be tested or gauged may be brought into the sight opening ,f0r.comparison with the colored gauging segments. This enables the various gauging indicia being brought successively into position for comparison with the specimen, the approximate percentage of hemoglobin being thus very easily deterj mined.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is: i
1. Ina device of the class described, the combination of a casing having a sight opening in the face thereof and a peripheral slot adjacent said sight opening, an indicia disc rotatably mounted in said casing and having colored segments of varying shades thereon with percentage indicia associated therewith, said disc being supported so that the colored segments may be successively brought into. register with'said sight opening, said slot being positioned so that aspecimen may be introduced therethrough for visualcomparison with said colored seg- I ments, and a driving disc having frictional engagement with said indicia disc, said driv-= no ing disc being disposed with one edge projecting from the edge of the casing for manipulation. i I
2. In a device of the clas'sdescribed, the combination of a casing having a sight open-' ing in the face thereof, an indicia disc roe tatably mounted in said casing and having colored segments of varying shades thereon with percentage indicia associated therewith, said disc being supported so that the colored segmentsmay be successively brought into register with said sight opening, and a driving jdisc having frictional engagement with said indicia disc, saiddriving disc be-, ing disposed with'one edge projecting from the edge of the casing for manipulation.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing having a sight open ing in the face thereof and a peripheral slot,
a'nindicia disc rotatably mounted in said slot 0 Y and having suitable gauging indicia therejon,1sa1'd disc being supported so that the gaugingindicia may be successively brought intolreg ster with said slght opening, said slot being positioned so that a specimen may be introduced rtherethrough "for purposes of -visualicomp arison with said gauging indicia,
.10; I fing fI'OIIIthG edge of the casing for m'anips ulation.
.anda driving disc having frictional engagemer t with said indicia disc, said driving disc being disposed with one edge projecta 4; In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing having a sight open- 'ing in the face thereof, an indicia disc ro- -1 said sight opening, and a driving disc having -frictional engagement with said indicia disc, said driving disc being disposed with one edge projecting from the edge of the casing for manipulation.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
