interconnected over the outside by the strips Y13 clinchedover the outer edges ot the porl lseparated articles are moved away from tl ey .circulating path of the rotating drum, while tions 17, and centrally connected by disc-like members 19. The .lowermost ends ot the trouglrlike portions are preferably extended beyond theA lowermost central "connecting plate 19, so thatv the different prongs 2O of the operating spider-plate 21 may engage and project into the space between the different vertically disposed troughs, to` allow a transmitting o't the rotating movements ot the .operating spider 21 to the storing drum.
The base-member 15 is provided with a separating and selecting recess 22, into which the lowermost articles are caused to drop as they pass over this'recess in the circular path ot their movement in thedrum. This recess 22 is made ot such a depth to receive a de.- sired number'of articles out ot the particular vertically disposed trough just positioned over the recess in the base. By making the depth yot the` recess equal to the thicknesses of the desired number ot articles wanted at one operation, such 'a' selecting and separat ing is thereby predetermined so as to assure la discharging of thecorrect quantity ot articles. `The sidewalls ot the recess are preterably shaped so that the separated articles 'are' suitably shifted in a sidewise direction while advanced forthedischarging move-r ment, as indicated at 23 in Fig.
i y By the -curving ot Lthe edges 23 as illustrated, the
the articles remaining in the drum are kept above the base by the portion 2K1. ot the base, just beyond the recess 22.V
The separated -articles are pushed from Y the'recessedv portion of the base until. the
'front edge of the separatedv articles drops down upon the lever 1n the manner illustrated in Fig. 5, as indicated at 25. On advancing the lever 9 and thereby the spider 21 with the drum 16 still further, the rear edge 'of separated articles is caused to drop from the recessed portion 22 of the baseV member 15, as indicated at 26 in Fig. (3. The separated articles then drop from the lever 9 as the lever is stillfurther advanced, so that the separated articles come to rest on the plat- .form 27 of the bot-tom plate 28.
vits normal inoperative position.
Since the operating lever 9 is advanced against the tension ot' the spring 10, von releasing the lever itV automatically returns to In so returning to its inoperative position, however, the lever comes to-vhit the separated articles-resting on the platform 27, and, by the force of the spring 10, the lever pushes and shoots the separated articles from the platform into the chute 28, from which it may be taken by the operator.
Y To prevent a `moving` ot the drum, more particularly the vertically disposed'troughs, for a distance more than from one trough to the next, a suitable checking mechanism has Vbeen interposed. vllVithout vany checking means it might be possible to jerk the operating lever 9 suddenly and ktast enough to cause the drum 'to move beyondv a predetermined distance, and thereby Vallow a discharging of articles from the drum ot a `greater than a desired quantity. The lever 9 is there-tore provided with an extension-end y30, as illustrated in Figs. 2, a and 5, having Y a downwardly bent portion 31. A check, in
'form of a rivet or the like, is provided in the base member 15, as indicated at 32, tor amovement in a vertical direction, and so as to extend into the path of the spider-prongsl 20. The bend or dip 31 of the operating lever 9is arrange-d vso thatthe rivet orl check is thereby allowed to drop longsenough to allow one vot the spider-prongs 20rto Vpass over this point as the lever is advanced.`
An interconnection is normally established between the operating lever 9 andthe prongs,
or one ot the prongs 20 at a time, vby interposing a coin or the like in the slot 34 so to engage with the prongs 2O of the loperating spider 21, as indicated at 29 in Figs. 1
and 5. rIhe operating spider is therefore `also advanced together with the advancing of the operating lever 9. A quick jerking ol the lever might therefore cause a moving of the spider therewith oi'1 the drum beyond a predetermined distance. p Y
' However, no matter how quick' the operating lever 9 is moved, the check is always forced to a point above the surface ot the base and into the path ol'y the prongs 2O of the operating spider that only one prong 2O can pass ata time, and 'that is only at the moment when the dip 31 ot the lever 9 passes below the cheek rllhis is illustrated in Figs. 4.- and 5, the prong 20, being in Fig. 4 at a point ust after the check 32 with the. check 32 still held on the l'ligh point 3() ot' the lever 9; while, in the advancedposition of the le- -ver 9 in Fig. 5, the dip 31 oit the lever 9 hav- Cil `spring 33.

lever with the drum by the insertion of a coin oi` the like formoving the idruin, fined means to receive and hold` a desired number vof articlesfrom the drum and adapted to hold such articles so that said operating lever Will discharge the articles so held by a return of the lever to its inoperative position.
2. In a vending' machine, a drinn for movably storing articles to be vended, an operating lever having means to interconnect the lever with the drum by the insertion of a coin or the like for moving the drum and thereby moving certain of the stored articles into a fixed separating compartment,
fixed means to receive and hold such separated Varticles so that said operatinglever will discharge the articles by a return to its normal inoperative position;

holding the articles after the articles have been removed from the discharging positionr4 by a returnv of the operating lever to its normal inoperative position.
Ll. In a vending machine, a drum for storing articles to be veiided, means to allow certain of the stored articles to drop from the stored position in the drum to a lower level into a lined separated positiom fixed means to allow the separated articles to drop to a still lower position free of and below the drum, an operating-lever having means to receive and hold a coin or the like for.
interconnecting the lever with the drum for moving the drum and Vthereby the stored The upper,l extension-end 38 serves articles to occupy they different positions named above and adapted to discharge the articles from the last-named position yby a returning to its normaly inoperative position.
5.
